NFL Betting – Packers to Pass on Vikings
By Russell Edward
Green Bay is playing the type of ball that must taste like a ton of crow to all those people who were crying for him to retire over the past few years. He is keeping his head when he runs out of the pocket, for the most part, not trying to force too much. It is this type of smart ball that is the reason why the Packs are the surprising, football betting 6-1-1 ATS dream team that they are. In fact, the one loss they have came against the Bears and was a direct result of the one time this year that Brett tried to do too much. Instead of throwing the ball away, he tossed it about 6 yards ahead of him, right into the waiting arms of Brian Urlacher, who could barely believe his luck.
Minnesota Vikings +6 at Green Bay Packers –6
The Pack have been using a running back by committee approach this year, and head coach Mike McCarthy knows this needs to be fixed, however, the Vikings are stiff against the run - ranked second in the NFL – and this is probably not the game in which to force the issue. With the records Minnesota has been setting this month (longest play in history and single-game rushing record), the Packers could end this game with one of the fewest rushing yardages ever.
On the other side of the offense, however, Brett’s resurgence has the Pack second in the league in passing, and the Packers receivers could have a field day against the Vikings. Minnesota is ranked 31st against the pass and will be outclassed all day if their offense sputters and Green Bay gets much time on the field. As bad as this day should be on the ground for the Packers, the passing game should be just the opposite. Don’t be surprised to see four or five touchdowns from Favre to his wideouts and tight ends.
If you bet on football and put something down on this game, you’ll have to decide whether or not last week’s defensive performance against San Diego was the start of a turnaround for this club. One thing you know is that Green Bay’s coaching staff is much more likely to develop a game plan that will work.
