Wager On NFL - Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys
By Robby Maddux
A week after clinching the division, the Dallas Cowboys (-11½) looks for a first-round playoff bye when they hosts the Philadelphia Eagles (+11½) on Sunday, and we have all the information, key trends and winning select for the NFL betting warriors.
The Cowboys come into this game having won seven consecutive contests SU (straight up) since suffering their only loss of the season to New England on Oct. 14.
Dallas rallied to win 28-27 last Sunday against the Detroit Lions to capture the NFC East title for the first time since 1998, but they failed to cover the spread as the 10½-point favorites.
Tony Romo was 35-of-44 for 302 yards and two touchdowns, collecting his seventh 300-yard effort of the season in the victorious money-dropping performance. It was the second non-cover win in their last four games.
The Cowboys are 12-1 SU and 9-4 ATS (against the spread). Only the 1992 Dallas team with Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin won 13 games in a regular season.
They will try to equal the feat behind an offense that's putting up a league second-best 32.5 points per game and 389.2 yards. Defensively, the Cowboys are allowing 21.2 points per game and 310.5 yards.
Sunday will be the fourth time Terrell Owens will face the Eagles since his media-hyped departure from Philadelphia at the end of the 2005 season.
Owens had 10 catches for 174 yards and a touchdown in Dallas' 38-17 money-making win over the Eagles as the field goal favorites on Nov. 4 in Philadelphia.
- Cowboys are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in December.
- Cowboys are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS loss.
- Cowboys are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 vs. NFC.
- Cowboys are 5-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
- Cowboys are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games.
- Cowboys are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall.
The Eagles have already essentially been eliminated from the playoffs and they are coming off a 16-13 loss to the New York Giants as the 3-point favorites, which was their third consecutive defeat SU. They have failed to cover the number in two games during the skid.
Donovan McNabb, who is expected to start again on Sunday, was sidelined for the two previous games with a sprained right ankle. He was 20-of-40 for 179 yards and one touchdown last weekend.
With McNabb under center, the Eagles are 5-6 SU, but the offense has struggled, averaging just 19.9 points per game. Overall, Philadelphia is 5-8 SU and 6-7 ATS, posting 20.8 points and collecting 352.9 yards per game on offense. On defense, the Eagles are allowing 20.2 points per game and 317.3 yards.
Brian Westbrook continues to have another solid season at running back for the Eagles. Westbrook has rushed for 1,110 yards and seven touchdowns on 236 carries. He is 107 yards shy of tying the career high he set last year and is a rushing touchdown away from setting another career best.
The Eagles have won five of their last seven visits to Dallas SU, including a 23-7 win on Dec. 25, 2006 as the 6½-point underdogs.
- Eagles are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in Week 15.
- Eagles are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss.
- Eagles are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 vs. NFC.
- Eagles are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 vs. NFC East.
- Eagles are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games.
NFL odds list Dallas the 11½-point favorites with a game total of 48½.
- Cowboys are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games as a favorite.
- Cowboys are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as a favorite of 3.5-10.0.
- Cowboys are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games as a home favorite.
- Eagles are 35-17-2 ATS in their last 54 games as an underdog.
- Eagles are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games as a road underdog.
Analysis: The matchup between these two clubs always produces a physically, exciting and hard fought game that usually is close on the scoreboard. The Eagles are 8-3 ATS in their last eleven meetings in Dallas and if Westbrook has a solid game and McNabb doesn't turn the ball over, Philadelphia can give Dallas a stiff challenge.
With 11½ points in your pocket you have to like the Eagles in this one. As well, the road team is 5-2 ATS in their last seven meetings and the underdog is 5-1 ATS in the last six.
