NBA Betting Action – Kobe, Pau, Hope to Make Hawks Say Ow!
By Eric Williams
The BetUS.com NBA betting community should take note of the Los Angeles Lakers, (31-16 SU, 2817-1 ATS, 22-24O/U), totally convincing 105-90 win over the New Jersey Nets in last night’s NBA action despite the fact that Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant scored a season-low six points while nursing a sore pinky finger.
Despite the fact that I picked the atrocious Nets to cover as 8.5-point home underdogs against the Lakers, New Jersey was rudely treated to the first glimpse of the new-look Lakers team that recently added all-star frontcourt player Pau Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Atlanta Hawks, (21-24 SU, 22-22-1 ATS, 18-27 O/U) have begun to change their fortunes this season with a slew of young players competing hard for head coach Mike Woodson each and every night while compiling decent records both, straight up and against the spread.
The Hawks have won just tree of their last ten games, but have won two straight coming into tonight’s matchup, including a solid 96-91 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday.
Atlanta has also managed to go a dismal 3-6-1 against the spread in its last ten games while L.A. has gone 6-3-1 against the spread in its last ten games including five consecutive covers coming into tonight’s contest.
Here is a look at some key trends for tonight’s matchup:
The Lakers are 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall.
The Lakers are 4-0 ATS in their last four vs. Eastern Conference.
The Hawks are 8-3 ATS in their last eleven Wednesday games.
The Hawks are 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 home games.
The Over is 5-1 in Lakers last six vs. a team with a losing S.U. record.
The Under is 10-2 in Hawks last 12 games vs. a team with a winning percentage above .600.
The Over is 5-1 in the last six meetings.
Analysis: There is no way I’m going against the Lakers tonight after getting burned by them last night. Los Angeles has made a habit of covering spreads like crazy recently and has but NBA bettors in the black in their last five games, including four road straight victories and covers. I say take L.A. to make it five in a row over the Hawks tonight.
