Off Track Horse Betting - Padding Your Bankroll

National horse racing handicapper Michael Dempsey will attempt to pad his bankroll and yours with his daily column. He will feature at least one Pick 3 or Pick 4 play from a major track along with coverage of major stakes races, longshots, and will keep you up to date on what is happening on the circuits he covers. Don't miss Wednesday's report where Michael will keep you up to date with track bias reports for the major circuits.

While snow and ice is falling in what seems like most of the U.S., we'll head out to sunny Florida for Grand Slam II Day at Calder Race Course in Miami.

There is an all stakes Pick 4 and I'll invest $48.

Pick 4 Starting in Race 8 $1: 3,5,7 / 1,3,8,9 / 1,3,11,12 / 11 = $48

Calder Race 8 G2 La Prevoyante Hcp (3:28 et)

#5 Dalvina

#3 Green Girl

#7 Eres Magica

#2 My Rachel

#5 Dalvina made her U.S. debut a winning one, taking the G3 Long Island with a good late rally after breaking a step slow. She caught a turf rated “good” and with rain on Thursday and Friday there likely will be some give to the turf here. Motion takes over the training duties from Dunlop, sharp barn is 19% winners (with a +ROI) with newcomers to the barn. Was closer to the pace two and three back and trainer stated this gal likely will be closer to the front here in this spot. Gives every indication this filly can run back or move forward off her last victory.

#3 Green Girl stalked the early pace from the inside and did not have enough punch in the stretch, finishing 4 ¼ lengths behind our top pick. Two back she took on the boys, finishing sixth in the G1 Turf Classic Invitational, beaten 6 /2 lengths behind the winner English Channel. She won four turf races overseas, the best a listed race at Saint Cloud in '05. Kent picks up the call as she makes her second start for Clement.

Wagering:

WIN: #5 to win at 2/1 or better.

EX: 3,5 / 2,3,5,7

TRI: 3,5 / 2,3,5,7 / 2,3,5,6,7,10

#1 Paradise Dancer / #1x D'artagnans'spirit

#9 Storm In May

#3 Yes He's the Man

#8 Finallymadeit

#1 Paradise Dancer is the strongest part of a three horse entry sent out by Ziadie barn. The seven year old gelding earned a career top in his last start, taking a $45K stake over a sloppy main track here. The runner up in the race was #8 Finallymadeit, who came back to win the Dudley 'Cap and Radar Love Stakes in his next two outings. A pair of bullet works on the morning tab and hard to look past this guy's career mark over the surface (26-10-7-6). Owns a solid pace profile throughout and is reunited with Elvis.

#1x D'artagnans'spirit made a good late rally and came u just a neck shy of winning the Radar Love last out, catching a main track that was favoring inside speed. Last start came off a three month break and this guy also loves the surface, taking the Turf Sprint 'Cap here three back in race taken off the turf and contested in the slop and has nor racked up a record of 12-5-3-0 on the surface.

#9 Storm In May came up the inside with a good late rally and came up just a head short last out in the Dudley 'Cap. Colt makes his third start of his current form cycle and will appreciate the stretch back out to seven furlongs.

Wagering:

WIN: #1 to win at 2/1 or better.

EX: 1,9 / 1,3,8,9

TRI: 1,9 / 1,3,8,9 / 1,3,5,8,9,10

#3 Indy Wind

#11 Electrify

#12 Actin Good

#1 Golden Strategy

#3 Indy Wind only had to beat three foes but did it in style winning the Alysheba last out at the Big M. The five year old earned a career top in the effort and bounced back nicely after being in over his head two back in the G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup. Was third three back in his lone go at nine furlongs in the Iselin 'Cap at Monmouth Park. Certainly has the pedigree to get the distance, by A.P. Indy out of a Kingmambo mare. Likely the best value among my top three picks and has the best post of the trio as well.

#11 Electrify drew clear late to win the Rose last out here and has run his local record to 7 for 11 in his career. A winner of 3 of his last 4 including a pair of stakes at today's nine furlongs distance. A logical threat here although he has to deal with a bum post.

#12 Actin Good is coming off a gate to wire score last out in the G3 Pegasus on BC Day at Monmouth in the slop. The runner up in the race was Now a Victor, who came back to win the G3 Discovery 'Cap in his next outing on 11/24 at the Big A. Faces older here and also draws a tough post.

Wagering:

WIN: #3 to win at 3/1 or better.

EX: 3,11 / 1,3,11,12

TRI: 3,11 / 1,3,11,12 / 1,3,9,10,11,12

Calder Race 11 G2 W.L. McKnight Hcp (4:45 et)

#11 Stream of Gold

#6 Revved Up

#10 Bee Charmer

#12 Kiss the Kid

#11 Stream of Gold checked in fourth last out in the G1 Canadian International, earning the top last out speed fig. Raced along the inside early and raced in traffic on the far turn, finishing 1 ¼ lengths behind the winner. Two have exited the race to run back including Sunriver, who took the G1 Hollywood Turf Cup in his next outing on 12/8. Two back our top pick ran a good second behind English Channel, who won the G1 BC Turf by seven lengths in his next outing. Looks primed for his first U.S. victory here.

#6 Revved Up was a game winer last out in the Fla bred stake going nine furlongs. This nine year old has won 19 times in his career, four times at today's 1 ½ mile distance. The old timer has landed in the exacta in 4 of his last 5 starts, the lone exception two back when he was off poorly in the G2 Sky Classic at Woodbine. The gelding is 3 for 4 on the turf here at Calder, seldom runs a bad one, and is in good hands with Clement.

Wagering:

WIN: #11 to win at 2/1 or better.

EX: 6,11 / 6,10,11,12

TRI: 6,11 / 6,10,11,12 / 1,6,7,10,11,12
