Horse Betting Action - Padding Your Bankroll

National horse racing handicapper Michael Dempsey will attempt to pad his bankroll and yours with his daily column. He will feature at least one Pick 3 or Pick 4 play from a major track along with coverage of major stakes races, longshots, and will keep you up to date on what is happening on the circuits he covers. Don't miss Wednesday's report where Michael will keep you up to date with track bias reports for the major circuits.

Oaklawn Park is dark today so we’ll focus solely on the Big A. Today’s feature race is the $65,000 Happy Princess Stakes, which drew a compact field of five.

The good news is my top pick is the third choice in the five horse field, so perhaps we can still get a decent price and a solid payoff with our $24 late Pick 3 play.

Today's Featured Races of the Day:

AQU Race 8 Happy Princess S. (3:49 et)

#5 Devil House 3/1

#2 You Asked 5/2

#1 Charlotte's Di 2/1

#3 Meadow Breeze 9/2

Analysis: #5 Devil House makes her first start since August for Levine barn that is 27% winners with newcomers to the barn and also 27% winners (with a +ROI) with horses coming back off a 61-180 day layoff. Was bumped around coming out of the gate and not a threat in a $50K stake at Remington in her most recent outing. She has won 5 of her 11 career starts and reeled off three stakes wins in a row including the Dixie Belle at Oaklawn at today's six furlong distance. She owns a solid pace profile throughout and likely fires her best off the bench for sharp barn.

#2 You Asked came up the inside with a good late rally after stumbling out of the gate last out against Alw-3 optional claimers. Finished second behind gate to wire winner Beau Dare, who was one of seven that day that went gate to wire over on a surface with a strong inside speed bias.

Wagering

WIN: #5 to win at 2/1 or better.

EX: 2,5 / 1,2,5

TRI: no play

Aqueduct Late Pick 3

Starting in Race 7: $1: 1,4,7,11 / 2,5 / 2,7,12 = $24

AQU Race 7 Clm $16,000N1Y (3:20 et)

#11 Mr. W.B., #1 Mighty Gulch, #7 Heathrow, #4 Rushbuckler

#11 Mr. W.B. made a good late rally to finish third last out in his first go off a three month break. Missed the runner up spot in a photo. Does not need to move forward much off his last start to be in the hunt in this spot.

#1 Mighty Gulch raced wide much of the trip last out in a fourth place finish, catching an inner surface that was more favorable to inside speed. Nine year old is a three time winner on the inner and gets a decent jock switch from "No Go" to Hill. Worth tossing in the mix here if we see close to the 20/1 ML.

AQU Race 8 Happy Princess S. (3:49 et)

#5 Devil House, #2 You Asked

(For analysis see above)

AQU Race 9 Md $35,000 (4:18 et)

#2 No Halo On Me, #12 Timber Ferry, #7 First Commandment

#2 No Halo On Me exits a highly graded race at Tampa against maiden special weight company, checking in fifth. The runner up and third place finisher both came back to break their maidens against maiden special weight company at Tamp while three others have exited the race to run in the money in their next starts. Now drops in for a tag and faces NY breds. The AE list is chock full of runners that fit and should be in the mix if they draw in.

Live Longshots:

These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.

AQU R1: #5 Sonny Pajamas 8/1

AQU R2: #2 Broad Acres 12/1

AQU R3: #6 Karakorum Roulette 15/1

AQU R6: #1 Metinicus 10/1

AQU R6 #5 Noteventheshadow 8/1

AQU R7: #1 Mighty Gulch 20/1

AQU R7: #4 Rushbuckler 12/1

AQU R9: #13 David’s Lab 12/1
