Horse Betting Action - Padding Your Bankroll

National horse racing handicapper Michael Dempsey will attempt to pad his bankroll and yours with his daily column. He will feature at least one Pick 3 or Pick 4 play from a major track along with coverage of major stakes races, longshots, and will keep you up to date on what is happening on the circuits he covers. Don't miss Wednesday's report where Michael will keep you up to date with track bias reports for the major circuits.

It’s Saturday Stakes Day and we have three very interesting stakes to try and solve today so we can pad our bankroll. Among them is the Aqueduct Handicap, where recently turned ten year old Evening Attire will try to beat his younger rivals.

There also are solid betting races at Fair Grounds and Oaklawn Park today.

Aqueduct Race 8 Aqueduct Hcp (Post time 3:49 et)

#2 Angliana

#3 Judiths Wild Rush

#1 Pink Viper

#5 Evening Attire

#2 Angliana got a useful prep for today with a runner up finish at Philly last out against Alw-4 optional claimers, his first go off a 10 month layoff. Last March the McLaughlin trainee checked in third in the Stymie, beaten 3 ½ lengths by #5 Evening Attire. While he was competitive in a couple of marathon stakes, he has done his best running at today’s D/S where he has landed in the exacta in 5 of 6 outings. Barn has solid numbers second off the bench and we should get a fair price.

#3 Judiths Wild Rush is a seven year old who made his last start in Maryland in the native Dancer at Laurel. Chased a loose on the lead gate to wire winner and had to settle for second. That was his first start off a four month layoff and figures to be tighter today. He has just two trips on the inner, his best a runner up finish here last March against optional claimers. Canet having a tough meeting, 0 for 17 with eight of the runners landing in the money.

#1 Pink Viper is coming off back to back career tops. Earned a 107 Beyer last out in his victory in the $63K Brush Up and is now 2 for 5 on the inner surface. This will be his third start in just over a month and coming off back to back tops and with a low % barn in his corner a bounce seems likely.

#5 Evening Attire made a good late rally to get up late and win the G3 Queens County last out. The ten year old keeps on ticking and has run well on the inner in his career (10-3-4-2). He does have a habit of breaking slowly but I like the switch to Ramon and I doubt he gets off slow here. The main question mark is the distance; he might not have enough ground to cover here.

Fair Grounds Race 9 Truly Bound Hcp (Post time 4:28 ct)

#6 Beat the Band

#5 Unforgotten

#11 Coolwind

#3 Tammy’s Victress

#6 Beat the Band stalked the early pace and could not get to the top pair last out at Delta going a mile in restricted company in her first go off a 3 ½ month layoff. She has done some of her best running when she can get the lead and not sure that is going to happen here. But she should move forward second off the bench and has Larry Jones in her corner. The trainer is 33% winners (with a +ROI) with horses betting making their second start off a 45-180 day layoff. Here’s hoping her 5/1 ML drifts up a point or two.

#5 Unforgotten is coming off a win versus Alw-2 optional claimers where she drifted in and out in the stretch while maintaining the lead as much the best. She has the look of a filly that can handle the stretch out to two turns for the first time.

#11 Coolwind won the $72K Treasure Chest last out at Delta going seven furlongs, which is two turns there. The third place finisher in the race was #1 Kathleen’s Reel, who returned to win a $55K restricted stake at Delta in her next outing on 12/28. Outside draw is the main concern. She has shown enough tactical speed in her last three starts that she may not lose too much ground on the first turn. If she does she will be right in the mix here.

Oaklawn Park Race 8 American Beauty S. (Post time 4:39 ct)

#6 Clever Strike

#3 Classify

#4 Country Diva

#1 Chatham / #1a Fast Deal

#6 Clever Strike made a good late rally through traffic to finish fourth last out in her turf debut, the first time in her career she has finished outside of the exacta. The filly returns to the main track today and drilled a bullet on the surface here on 1/13. Barn is 21% winners (with a +ROI) with horses coming back off a 46-90 day break.

#3 Classify also goes turf to dirt. The filly made a god late rally to beat Alw-3 foes last out going 5 ½ on the weeds. It was her first start off an eight month layoff. She reeled off three consecutive wins over the main track here in ’07 and figures to move forward second off the bench for Asmussen.
