Horse Betting Trends - Padding Your Bankroll

National horse racing handicapper Michael Dempsey will attempt to pad his bankroll and yours with his daily column. He will feature at least one Pick 3 or Pick 4 play from a major track along with coverage of major stakes races, longshots, and will keep you up to date on what is happening on the circuits he covers. Don't miss Wednesday's report where Michael will keep you up to date with track bias reports for the major circuits.

We started off the week in good form on Thursday, hitting the featured race of the day and the late Pick 3 at the Big A.

Devil House got home as my top pick, paying $5.10. We also had the recommended exacta, good for $16.20.

We turned our $16 late Pick 3 ticket (after scratches, originally $24) into $83.50. Not a bad way to start off the week.

Oaklawn Park is back in the mix today, providing us with several live longshots and today’s featured race of the day:

Today's Featured Races of the Day:

AQU Race 7 OClm $50,000N2X (3:20 et)

#3 Runway Rosie 5/2

#5 Alotofappeal 6/1

#9 Croesus 7/2

#2 Lauren's Tizzy 8/1

Analysis: #3 Runway Rosie was outrun in the early going and made a mild late rally up the rail to finish sixth while beaten just 2 1/4 lengths in stakes company last out. Two back in the slop the filly missed winning the Fleet Fleet Feet by just a nose in a game effort. She is G1 placed and finds a great spot here dropping into the optional claiming ranks.

#5 Alotofappeal exits the same race as our top pick where she dueled for the early lead and tired to finish sixth. Two back she ran a game second at today's condition in NJ behind Sherunsforbilly, who came back to beat Alw-4 optional claimers in her next outing on 11/10. Filly owns the edge in early and mid pace numbers and will be the one to catch here.

Wagering

WIN: #3 to win at 9/5 or better.

EX: 3,5 / 2,3,5,9

TRI: 3,5 / 2,3,5,9 / 1,2,3,5,7,9

OP Race 5 OClm $40,000N2X (3:21 ct)

#9 Priceless Gem 4/1

#3 Silver Breeze 3/1

#5 Hard to Get 5/2

#6 Primetime Princess 12/1

Analysis: #9 Priceless Gem makes her first start off a two month break after shipping in from Ky. Last out the five year old mare beat $40K claimers with a good late rally while wide after getting bumped coming out of the gate. The third place finisher in the race was I've Been Humbled, who came back to beat $25K claimers in her next outing on 12/7. Trainer showing a 0 for 2 mark first off the claim. He is a former assistant to Bobby Frankel.

Wagering

WIN: #9 to win at 5/2 or better.

EX: 3,9 / 3,5,6,9

TRI: 3,9 / 3,4,5,6,9 / 3,4,5,6,9

Aqueduct Late Pick 3

Starting in Race 7: $1: 3,5 / 2,3,4 / 1,6,8,9 = $24

AQU Race 7 OClm $50,000N2X (3:20 et)

#3 Runway Rosie, #5 Alotofappeal

#3 Runway Rosie was outrun in the early going and made a mild late rally up the rail to finish sixth while beaten just 2 1/4 lengths in stakes company last out.

AQU Race 8 OClm $75,000N3X (3:49 et)

#3 Hurrah, #4 Nkosi Reigns, #2 Indian Hawke

#3 Hurrah had to steady soon after the start and made a good late rally to get up and beat Alw-2 optional claimers last out in his first go off the claim by Contessa. The gelding overcame the poor start and an inside speed favoring racing strip to pull off the win. Gelding's numbers are going the wrong way over this last pair after popping a career top three back but still think this guy moves forward off his latest effort.

#4 Nkosi Reigns chased the early pace over a muddy surface and weakened to finish third against conditioned optional claimers last out, two back faced G3 company, checking in fifth and last. His best number since coming to the U.S. was a 96 Beyer earned four back and that would be good enough to put him in the mix here. Easier spot here and in good hands with McLaughlin barn. Worth tossing in the mix here if we see close to the 10/1 ML.

AQU Race 9 Md $35,000 (4:18 et)

#9 Yankee Chief, #8 Timber Ferry, #6 David's Lab, #1 Tropical Dim / #1a Precisely Greg

#9 Yankee Chief raced evenly while down along the inside much of the trip last out in a third place finish as the lukewarm favorite. The winner of the race was Buy a Personality, who came back to run second against $50K starter allowance foes on 1/21. Draws a tough post here but looks headed in the right direction. Has five sibs, four winners, top earner Delta Storm ($128K).

#8 Timber Ferry was fourth in his debut and stretches out to two turns here. Levine is 29% winners (with a +ROI) with second time starters.

Live Longshots:

These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.
