In the HEAD-to-HEAD NBA betting trends:

* Four of the last six meetings have gone UNDER the total

* NY has covered five of the last six games as the visitor

* NY has won four of the last six meetings SU as the visitor

* Four of the last six meetings in Salt Lake City has gone UNDER the total

New York continues to be the worst defensive team in the NBA, using field goal percentage as a measuring stick, as they have yielded 47.5% shooting. The Knicks are averaging 94.9 ppg and give up 100.9 ppg. Also:

* NY has covered six of its last nine games

* NY has played 10 of its last 15 games OVER the total

* NY has covered four of its last six road games

Utah is second in the NBA in field goal percentage with 49.3%. The Jazz is second in the NBA in rebounds allowed, with 38.4 per game. And they have chalked up 26.1 assists a contest. Also:

* UTAH has won and covered its last five games

The Knicks have just come from Los Angeles, where they were leading much of the way, then faded in the end in a 120-109 defeat as Kobe Bryant took over. New York made nine three-pointers in that game, which was as much as they have made int heir previous three games combined.

Now, however, the Knicks have to go to the altitude of Utah with no rest, while the Jazz have had a day off after beating San Antonio on Monday to chalk up its ninth home win in a row. Utah has shot 50% or more in four of its last five games, and that's not the best news for the Knicks, since a team probably has to fizzle out for them to have a real opportunity to win.

Plus, there is the revenge motive to think about. Utah went to Madison Square Garden on November 26 and dropped a 113-109 decision as a 5.5-point favorite, in which Stephon Marbury (who is now missing in action) had 28 points. Curiously, the Knicks have had some mastery in this series, covering the last six meetings. But there is always the internal issue when this team involved, and lately Eddy Curry had been mad about not getting the ball enough.

Despite the series trends, we like the Jazz anyway, and so we'll lay the points with this team that has posted a 15-6 ATS record as the home favorite. That's the Jazz, the 12.5-point favorite in the BetUS NBA basketball betting odds.
