NBA Basketball Betting – New York at New Jersey

WHO: New York Knicks (11-26 SU, 16-21 ATS) at New Jersey Nets (18-19 SU, 15-21-1 ATS)

WHERE: Izod Center in East Rutherford, NJ

WHEN: Wednesday, January 16 at 7:30 PM ET

BetUS NBA betting odds: NEW JERSEY -7.5, Total: 190

In the HEAD-to-HEAD NBA basketball betting trends:

* NJ has won 20 of the last 25 meetings SU

* NY has covered five of the last eight meetings

* Six of the last nine meetings have gone UNDER the total

* NJ has covered seven of the last ten meetings as the home team

* NJ has won 13 of the last 16 meetings SU as the home team

* Four of the last five meetings in New Jersey have gone UNDER the total

* NJ has made more three-pointers in seven of the last nine meetings

The Knicks are at a minus-6.5 point differential, meaning they get outscored that much on an average by their opponents. They shoot just 70% from the line, which is 29th in the league, and have an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.2-to-1. Also:

* NY has won three of its last 12 games SU

* NY has played six of its last eight games OVER the total

* NY has covered four of its last 12 road games

* NY has won two of its last 15 road games SU

* NY has played eight straight road games OVER the total

New Jersey has gone four straight games without reaching the 100-mark. The Nets shoot only 43.8% as a team and score 92.7 points a contest, which is the lowest figure in the circuit. Also:

* NJ has won six of its last nine games SU

* NJ has covered four of its last 19 home games

* NJ has won six of its last 18 home games SU

New Jersey has scored a total of 150 points in its last two games at the Izod Center. But those were against Boston and Portland. This isn't the same kind of opponent. The Knicks are possibly the worst defensive team in the league, yielding 47.4% from the floor, and they are one of the worst in terms of attitude and fundamentals. And the Nets, against other than the high-level clubs, have begun to perform better lately, winning six of their last nine.

We knew the Nets had won a lot of games against the Knicks (in fact, 20 of the last 25), but we weren't aware of the fact that the Knicks have covered five of the last eight meetings. That notwithstanding, we like the idea of the Nets, angry at their poor output against Portland on Monday, when it shot 34% and had no starters with more than ten points, comes out firing against a team it has dominated on the scoreboard in the recent past. Here they come across the guy Portland had to deal in order to get better - Zach Randolph - who is rumored to be on the trading block, another thing that, long-term, can't be very good for new York morale.

In what will soon be a battle for supremacy in New York City (when the Nets move to Brooklyn, anyway), we'll lay the points with New Jersey, the 7.5-point favorite in the BetUS NBA basketball betting odds.
