Tonight's Monday Night Football matchups features the Washington Redskins (1-0 straight up 0-0-1 against the spread) and the Philadelphia Eagles (0-1 straight up 0-1 against the spread) in a NFC East showdown at Lincoln Financial Field and we have NFL betting fan's winning selection.
Prior to last Sunday’s 16-13 money-dropping loss against Green Bay as the 3-point favorites, Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback Donovan McNabb had not started a regular season game since November 19, 2006. Rust was certainly present in his performance, as he completed just 15-of-33 passes for 184 yards and one touchdown.
Despite the slow start, McNabb has won seven of his last eight starts against the Redskins, and he's passed for 1,285 yards, 11 touchdowns and just three interceptions over his last five meetings against them.
Philadelphia has won nine of the last 11 meetings straight up with Washington, with the two losses coming in 2005. Including last year's playoff, the Eagles are 4-3-1 against the spread in their last eight games.
In their season opening loss, the Eagles' defense allowed a solid 215 yards overall, 169 through the air and NFL-best 46 on the ground.
Washington's running backs Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts will have their hands full against Philadelphia's stellar rush stopping defense. In Week 1, Betts ran for 59 yards on 17 rushes while Portis gained 98 yards on 17 carries with a touchdown.
Last season, Betts rushed for 83 yards on 20 carries on the road in a 27-3 money-dropping loss on Nov. 12 versus Philadelphia as the 7-point underdogs and posted career highs of 33 carries and 171 yards in a 21-19 defeat on Dec. 10 at home which resulted in a push with the Eagles favored by 2.
In their 16-13 overtime win over Miami as the 3-point favorites in Week 1 that resulted in a push, receiver Antwaan Randle El collected a career-high 162 yards.
Note: Washington's right tackle Jon Jansen broke his right ankle last week early in the second quarter and could be out for the year.
Expect the Eagles to deliver the Redskins a large dose of running back Brian Westbrook, who rushed for 201 yards and added 75 receiving in last year's two games against Washington.
NFL odds display Philadelphia the 6.5-point favorites with a total of 39. If the Redskins can contain Westbrook and put pressure on McNabb they can win this contest outright, making Washington the wise play in this one.
