NFL Wagering: Monday Night Football Prop Bets

If you didn’t use up your entire bankroll wagering on the Patriots/Colts game on Sunday afternoon there are plenty of opportunities to do some NFL betting on the Monday night contest. This week’s primetime matchup features the Baltimore Ravens traveling to Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field to battle the Steelers, who hold down top spot in the AFC North.

And while Pittsburgh is only one game up on Baltimore in that division race (they’re 5-2, while the Ravens are 4-3), the oddsmakers at BetUS have listed them as big 9-point home favorites in this contest (with the game’s OVER/UNDER pegged at a modest 36).

Like the Steelers’ chances of both winning on Monday night and covering that large NFL point spread? In the prop bets section at BetUS you can get +300 odds that Pittsburgh will win by 7-12 points on Monday. Here are the Steelers’ other margins and their listed NFL lines:

Steelers win by 1-6 points: +400

Steelers win by 7-12 points: +300

Steelers win by 13-18 points: +350

Steelers win by 19-24 points: +550

Steelers win by 25-30 points: +800

Steelers win by 31-36 points: +1200

Steelers win by 37-42 points: +2500

Steelers win by 43+ points: +1800

And here are Pittsburgh’s winning margins from their five victories so far this season:

Week 1 at Cleveland, 27 points (34-7)

Week 2 vs. Buffalo, 23 points (26-3)

Week 3 vs. San Francisco, 21 points (37-16)

Week 5 vs. Seattle, 21 points (21-0)

Week 8 at Cincinnati, 11 points (24-13)

On the other hand, if you like the underdog Ravens’ chances off pulling off an upset on Monday night you can wager on their winning margins instead. Here are the numbers:

Ravens win by 1-6 points: +500

Ravens win by 7-12 points: +800

Ravens win by 13-18 points: +1600

Ravens win by 19-24 points: +3000

Ravens win by 25-30 points: +5500

Ravens win by 31-36 points: +8000

Ravens win by 37-42 points: +12500

Ravens win by 43+ points: +10000

And here are Baltimore’s winning margins from their four victories so far this season:

Week 2 vs. NY Jets, 7 points (20-13)

Week 3 vs. Arizona, 3 points (26-23)

Week 5 at San Francisco, 2 points (9-7)

Week 6 vs. St. Louis, 19 points (22-3)

Obviously, then, it’s Pittsburgh that’s more likely to run up the score in a victory on Monday night. Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is having a good season, with 1533 yards passing, 15 touchdowns, six interceptions, and a rating of 102.2. Ravens QB Steve McNair, who is expected to return from his various injuries to start this game, has thrown just two TD passes (and two INTs) in four games, and his rating is down at 80.2.

If you think Big Ben will air it out early and get his team a quick TD, you can get EVEN odds on the Steelers opening the scoring by getting into the end zone. A Pittsburgh field goal being the game’s first points is listed at +250 odds. Baltimore being the first to strike on Monday with a TD is pegged at +250 odds, and a Ravens FG is at +300 NFL odds.

The Steelers’ strong offense also has them as the favorite in the other scoring-related prop bets. Pittsburgh is a -165 fave to be the team that scores the longest touchdown on Monday (Baltimore is at +125), and they’re at just -160 odds to be the team that scores last in the contest (Baltimore is at +120). The Steelers are also listed as the -135 favorite to get the first 1st-down, while the Ravens are -140 favorites to have to punt first.

Finally, the ‘No’ side is the -1000 fave on the ‘Will a punt be returned for a touchdown’ prop bet, and it’s also the favorite on the similar lines for an interception (-800) and a kickoff (-3000). The first half (plus a half point) is the -130 favorite to feature the most points scored, while successfully predicting a team will snag a safety pays at +800 odds.
