BetUS March Madness Million Dollar Bracket Contest
By Robby Maddux
March Madness is days away from tip-off and we have your $1,000,000 bracket waiting. Bracket builders should keep in mind, never in the history of the NCAA tournament has all four No. 1 seeds appeared in the Final Four. But, this could be the year!
The North Carolina Tar Heels (32-2 SU, 20-11 ATS) are the No. 1 overall seed in the Big Dance and have more than enough talent to land you the $1,000,000. The Tar Heels captured the Atlantic Coast Conference championship, which was its third consecutive, that gave the program a record 17th conference title.
Led by Tyler Hansbrough, who deserves Player of the Year Honors, the Tar Heels play the first four games in its home state on the road to the Final Four in San Antonio. North Carolina’s extraordinary offensive and home cooking makes it difficult to not have them go far in your $1,000,000 bracket.
Memphis (33-1, 15-17-2 ATS) earned the No. 1 seed in the South bracket with the nation's best record. This is Memphis’ third consecutive 30-victory season. Memphis added a third straight C-USA tournament championship to its third consecutive regular-season title.
The Tigers own an explosive offense and are No. 3 in the nation in defensive efficiency. They are very capable of building your $1,000,000 bracket in money-making fashion, while making the Final Four.
Kansas (31-3, 18-14 ATS) is another No. 1 seed in the Midwest bracket worthy of dancing in the Final Four. The Jayhawks claimed its sixth Big 12 title in 12 years. The Big 12’s regular-season co-champions are incredibly well-rounded, placing in the top 2 in the nation in both offensive and defensive efficiency.
The Jayhawks lost as a No. 3 seed (to Bucknell) in 2005 and as a No. 4 (to Bradley) last season. However, they'll have history on their side this year: A No. 1 seed has never lost in the first round.
UCLA (31-3, 19-12-2 ATS) has been a top team all season and won the Pac-10 tournament to get the nod as the No. 1 seed in the West bracket. It's UCLA’s first No. 1 seed since 1995, when they won their 11th national championship.
The Bruins won its third-consecutive Pac-10 crown and are riding a ten-game win streak. They are balanced and one of two teams to rank in the top five in offensive and defensive efficiency.
Will these powerhouses collect you the $1,000,000? Or, will a Cinderella bust your bracket? It's always smart to include a few smaller teams but, when you’re filling out your bracket, don’t go over board with the Cinderellas. They rarely last past the second round.
Only three times has a team seeded worse than No. 8 reached the Final Four (Penn in 1979, LSU in 1986 and George Mason in 2006) and only three times has someone worse than a No. 4 won the NCAA title (N.C. State in 1983, Villanova in 1985 and Kansas in 1988).
In addition to our $1,000,000 Bracket Madness, we will also be offering a $10,000 Sweet 16 Bracket and a $10,000 Elite 8 Bracket.
