NBA Basketball Betting – Cleveland at San Antonio

by Eric Williams

The defending champion San Antonio Spurs, (25-11 SU, 17-18-1 ATS, 16-20 O/U) host the Cleveland Cavaliers, (20-18 SU, 16-22 ATS, 19-18-1 O/U) tonight in a rematch of last season’s NBA Finals – and Cavaliers fans can only hope that tonight’s outcome doesn’t resemble any of the four games the Spurs easily beat the Cavaliers in while cruising to a sweep of the overmatched and outmanned Cavaliers.

Each team comes into tonight’s matchup riding a two-game winning streak. The Spurs beat the Philadelphia 76ers in their last contest, winning 89-82 at home on Monday while the Cavaliers beat the Memphis Grizzlies 132-124 in overtime on the road on Tuesday.

The Spurs are the owners of the league’s best home record, (19-3) and are ranked third in defense, allowing just 92.0 points per game on 45.6 percent shooting but will be facing the league’s leading scorer in LeBron James, (29.8 ppg) and best finisher, (9.4 ppg in the fourth quarter).

The Cavaliers have won eight of their last 10 games and beat the Spurs in both of the teams’ regular-season meetings in 2006-07.

Here is a look at tonight’s key Trends, followed by my NBA Betting Free Picks:

Key Cavaliers Trends

The Cavaliers are 6-1 ATS in their last seven Thursday games.

The Cavaliers are 20-7-1 ATS in their last 28 road games vs. a team with a home winning percentage of greater than .600.

The Cavaliers are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games vs. a team with a winning percentage above .600.

Key Spurs Trends

The Spurs are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games as a home favorite of 5.0-10.5.

The Spurs are 16-6 ATS in their last 22 games as a favorite of 5.0-10.5.

The Spurs are 5-2 ATS in their last seven vs. NBA Central.

Key Totals Trends

The Under is 5-0 in Cavaliers last five games vs. a team with a winning percentage above .600.

The Under is 4-0 in Cavaliers last four games as a road underdog.

The Under is 7-1 in Spurs last eight games following a S.U. win.

The Under is 6-1 in Spurs last seven Thursday games.

Key Head-to-Head Trends

The Under is 5-1 in the last six meetings.

The Home team is 8-2 ATS in the last ten meetings.

The Cavaliers are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in San Antonio.

Analysis: While I like the Spurs to win this game, I am going to take the Cavaliers to cover the 8-point spread tonight with James doing his all to give the Cavs a shot to win. In the end, the Spurs’ ‘Big Three’ of Duncan, Parker and Ginobili are going to be too much for the Cavs – again.
