While the Boston Celtics, (22-3 SU, 17-7-1 ATS, 9-15-1 O/U) are clearly the better team coming into this matchup – and undoubtedly one of the top contenders in either conference to win this year’s NBA title – the Celtics will be facing one of the Top 10 ATS (against the spread) teams in the league when they take on the Sacramento Kings, (11-15 SU, 15-11 ATS, 13-12-1 O/U) tonight in the first of four consecutive west coast games for the Celtics.

After dropping their first game of the season at home to the Detroit Pistons on Dec. 19, the Celtics have routed the Chicago Bulls 107-82 and spanked the Orlando Magic 103-91 while covering the spread in each contest.

The Sacramento Kings have won two of their last three games, but come into this matchup off a heartbreaking 106-105 loss to the Denver Nuggets on a last-second shot by Leinas Kleiza.

The Kings have covered the spread in four of their last six games but lost to Boston on Dec. 12, 90-78.

Analysis: While there is no doubt that the Celtics will win this road contest against a mediocre Sacramento team, the seven-point line makes this wager a bit tricky, particularly since the Kings are one of the top ATS teams in the league. In the end however, I say take the Celtics to cover the spread with just a bit of room to spare as they will likely want to make a “statement” to their west coast counterparts in this contest.
