NBA Basketball Betting Action – Philadelphia at San Antonio
By Charles Jay
WHO: Philadelphia 76ers (14-23 SU, 16-20-1 ATS) at San Antonio Spurs (24-11 SU, 18-17 ATS)
WHERE: AT&T Center in San Antonio
WHEN: Monday, January 14 at 8:35 PM ET
BetUS NBA basketball betting odds: SAN ANTONIO -12, Total: 187.5
In the HEAD-to-HEAD NBA basketball betting trends:
* SA is 3-2-1 ATS in the last six meetings
* SA has won five of the last six meetings SU
* The visiting team is 4-2-1 ATS in the last seven meetings
* Five if the last seven meetings has gone UNDER the total
* SA has had the shooting edge in four of the last six meetings
* SA has had the rebounding edge in five of the last six meetings
* SA has made more three-pointers in each of the last five meetings
The Sixers have made less three-pointers than anyone in the NBA (3.9 per game). Philadelphia averages 13.1 offensive rebounds per contest, and registers 8.2 steals per game. Also:
* PHIL has lost its last six games SU
* PHIL is 0-5 ATS in its last five games
* PHIL has played four of its last six games OVER the total
* PHIL has lost and failed to cover its last three road games
* PHIL has played three of its last four road games OVER the total
At home, San Antonio limits opponents to 37.4 rebounds per game - that's the lowest in the NBA. The Spurs have outshot opponents only 46%--45.8%. They do take care of the ball as well as anyone, with just 12.2 turnovers a game. Also:
* SA has covered three of its last 12 games
* SA has covered three of its last eight home games
* SA is 18-3 SU at home this season
We'd love to see an opportunity to grab points with Philly, since the Spurs are not covering numbers lately. But the Sixers have lost six in a row and dropped five straight to the number, and only sometimes have they been competitive. You're talking about a team that not only has reached 43% shooting only once in the last five, but is under-performing from the line as well.
Interesting - as bad as the Sixers have played at times, this is the highest number they've fetched yet this season. But San Antonio, which is 3-9 ATS in its last dozen, is actually 9-4 ATS as a double digit favorite. They can blast out bad teams - as they did against Minnesota the other night - even if not playing at their best. Manu Ginobili has hit the 20-mark in three of his four games back since returning to the rotation, When he is in there, he helps the second unit extend leads.
Any "look-ahead" possibility is no problem since San Antonio has a couple of days off after this. We'll lay the points with the Spurs, the 12-point favorite in the BetUS NBA betting odds.
