NBA - Detroit Pistons vs. Milwaukee Bucks
by D.S. Williamson
Detroit Pistons (- 6.5) vs. Milwaukee Bucks (+ 6.5)
The thinking behind the BetUS point spread in this game is that because the Detroit Pistons made shambles of the BetUS spread last night, they were favored by 6 and ended up losing straight-up to the Orlando Magic by 15, they have to bounce back, right? I mean they do get to take on the Milwaukee Bucks in Milwaukee. The Bucks have gone 4 and 6 against the BetUS spread in their last 10 games. Detroit has to be better than that, right? Wrong! The Pistons have also gone 4 and 6 against the BetUS spread in their last 10 games.
Here are more trends:
The Detroit Pistons are 10-2-1 against the spread in their last 13 games on a Wednesday night.
The Milwaukee Bucks are 5 and 1 against the spread in their last 6 games on a Wednesday night.
The Detroit Pistons are 7 and 3 against the spread in their last 10 games following a straight-up loss.
The Milwaukee Bucks are 6 and 2 against the spread in their last 8 games versus a team from the NBA Central Division.
The NBA betting trends are all over the place in this one. That makes this a very tough call either way. I certainly do believe that the Pistons will come out to prove something, but they are so terrible against the BetUS spread, preferring to just lay back and let wins come to them, that they are almost always difficult to endorse giving up more than 4 points no matter who they play.
The Bucks are hot and cold, but their overall against the spread record is actually better than the Pistons’. Will that matter in tonight’s game?
Michael Redd can easily put up 30 points a night for the Bucks and one of these days that Bucks’ front-court is going to have to do something special. Part of me is definitely on the fence with this one, but my BetUS gambler’s mind definitely requires me to take a stand.
I’m going with Milwaukee and the points. My faith in the Pistons just isn’t strong enough and the conflicting trends require that taking the points is a must.
The BetUS line is Milwaukee Bucks + 6.5 against the spread at home versus the Detroit Pistons.
Detroit could burn me tonight, but I have to stick to BetUS gambling logic which says that when in doubt take the points.
