MLB Baseball Betting Trends Mariners at Tampa Bay
By Eric Williams
While many baseball sports betting fanatics, sportsbook handicappers and analysts expect the Seattle Mariners to be contenders to win the AL Pennant this season, the Mariners come into tonight’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays riding a four-game losing streak after getting swept by the Baltimore Orioles in four straight games, including a 5-4 loss on Monday.
Tonight, the Mariners will look to pick up their second victory of the season behind newly acquired starter Erik Bedard.
Bedard, (0-0, 1.80 ERA), didn’t record the victory, but he limited Texas to one run on three hits in five innings of a 5-2 Mariners win.
Bedard had been scheduled to face his former club Sunday, but had his scheduled turn against the Orioles pushed back due to inflammation in his hip.
"I think I'll be fine," Bedard, who is 10-3 with a 2.94 ERA in 19 career appearances versus the Rays (3-3), said Sunday morning.
The Mariners haven gone 1-5 since Bedard's start and are currently in last place in the AL West.
"We have a very good team," said starter Carlos Silva, who did not receive a decision. "It's like we need to concentrate a little more. We need to do the little things. (Monday), maybe if I make better pitches, we win the game. Something is not working right now, but we're going to get better."
The Tampa Bay Rays come in riding a two-game losing streak of their own and had a season-low three hits in Monday’s 6-1 loss to the New York Yankees.
"Hats off to their pitching," Rays starter Jason Hammel said after taking the loss. "It won't happen often to keep our guys to one run."
Rays starter Matt Garza (0-0, 8.44) who came to Tampa from Minnesota this offseason, allowed five runs on six hits 5 1/3 innings of a 9-6 loss at Baltimore on Wednesday.
