Bet on Tennis Action - Australian Open Second Round Odds
By Nila Amerova
Melbourne, Australia – Day four of the Australian Open is already in full swing, and BetUS has all the tennis matchup odds currently live for you to bet on – so let’s get started! Here are some tennis free picks for you to consider when making your tennis wagers.
Match Time: 11PM EST Wednesday January 16, 2008
Tennis Betting Line: Roger Federer -10000 Fabrice Santoro +1800
Tennis Prediction: Bookmakers pre-tournament short odds favourite Roger Federer (priced at -200 to win outright) will be tough to beat at this stage of the tournament, even by Fabrice “the magician” Santoro – one of the most entertaining playmakers on the tour. With the outrageous price tag of -10000, bettors clearly should have no trouble figuring out whom to bet on. Although, if you watched Santoro’s bewitching performance against James Blake at the 2007 US Open, on the merit of that performance, you may want to place a nominal bet on the underdog—just in case he should conjure up some magic in Melbourne Park today.
Tennis Free Picks: Federer in straight sets
Tennis Betting Line: Novak Djokovic -5000 Simone Bolelli +1200
Tennis Prediction: Preceding Serbian Novak Djokovic at the first Grand Slam event of the year are many high hopes; heck even the odds makers priced Djokovic second to Federer to win outright at +550. After a nervy first round match, Djokovic should be a little better prepared for his second round contest. On hard court, he is one of the strongest players on the ATP tour; however, the new Plexicushion surface is considerably slower than the other hard court surfaces he favours. I expect Djokovic to be tested by Bolelli, who is an occasional practice partner for Roger Federer, but pull through to the next round.
Tennis Free Pick: Djokovic in four sets
Tennis Betting Line: Lleyton Hewitt -9½ -120 -4000 Denis Istomin +9½ -120 +1200
Tennis Prediction: Tony Roche – Roger Federer’s former coach – joined Lleyton Hewitt’s camp late in 2007. Federer’s loss has been Hewitt’s gain. Hewitt got off to a solid start in Melbourne, exacting a resounding 6-0, 6-3, 6-0 victory over Steve Darcis of Belgium. In the second round, he meets wild card Denis Istomin, who ranks beyond the Top 200. This should be another easy Hewitt victory.
Tennis Free Picks: Hewitt in straight sets
Tennis Betting Line:
Juan Martin Del Potro +7½ -120 +400 Over 33½ -120
David Ferrer -7½ -120 -700 Under 33½ -120
Tennis Prediction: No.5 David Ferrer had a breakthrough season in 2007, and largely on the merit of his performance during the late summer and fall hard court season, he cracked the Top 10. At the 2007 US Open, Ferrer reached the semifinals. One of the most determined players on the tour, Ferrer is a tough competitor. As long as he is top form, he should go deep into the tournament. At -700, the hardworking Ferrer is a safe bet.
Tennis Free Picks: Ferrer in straight sets.
