ATP Tennis Odds – Channel Open Second Round Picks
By Nila Amerova
Las Vegas, Nevada -- BetUS is taking action on the Tennis Channel Open. The tournament moves into the R16 and with a berth in the quarterfinal on the line, here is a look at some of the matchups set to kick-off second round action on Thursday, March 6, 2008.
Tennis Betting Line: Fernando Gonzalez -400 Evgeny Korolev +250
Match Time: 12:30 PM Eastern Time, Thursday March 6, 2008
Tennis Prediction: Top seed Chilean Fernando Gonzalez is making his debut at the Tennis Channel Open this year, and with a first round victory on Tuesday over Dudi Sela, 6-2, 7-6(2), his campaign has gotten off to a great start. Contesting his first tournament since winning the title in Vina Del Mar, Chile – his home event – Gonzalez draws 2007 Las Vegas semifinalist in the second round, Evgeny Korolev of Russia.
Tipped at -400 favorite odds, Gonzalez is a good play, particularly as he holds a 1-0 lifetime record over the Russian; Gonzalez defeatedNo.100 Korolev last year at the Australian Open in the first round 6-7(4), 7-6(6), 6-3, 6-2. Gonzalez enters with a 7/1 record into this match, having lost only one match this season at the Australian Open R32. With only one loss and one ATP title in the bag, Gonzalez should be a confident player coming into this match, making him the better play. Indeed, he should win this match.
Korolev arrives with a 5/3 record, his best performance to date came in Sydney, in January, where he made a quarterfinal appearance.
Tennis Free Picks: Gonzalez in straight sets
Tennis Betting Line: John Isner -200 Kevin Anderson +150
Match Time: 12:30 PM Eastern Time, Thursday March 6, 2008
Tennis Prediction: No. 94 American John Isner is favoured in this matchup at -200; recommending Isner is home court advantage in Las Vegas and a higher ranking than Kevin Anderson of South Africa, who currently sits at No.175. Moreover, Isner has a few more match-wins than Anderson does. Isner brings a 3/3 record into their meeting, while Anderson nicked his first career ATP win against Michael Llodra in his third ATP tournament of the season. Isner will be the bettors’ short-odds-on favorite for the win. But Anderson took Llodra – a two-time titlist this season already – convincingly in straight sets 6-2, 7-6(2). On the heels of his performance, I am inclined to take the odds makers bait and take the South African for the win.
Tennis Free Picks: Anderson in straight sets
