ATP Tennis Betting Picks - Rome Masters 3rd Round
By Nila Amerova
Rome, Italy – BetUS Sportsbook is taking action on the ATP Masters Series in Rome. With the third round tennis odds currently running, here is a look at some of the tennis betting action the sports betting community at BetUS has to choose from.
Tennis Betting Line: Novak Djokovic vs. Igor Andreev
Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time Thursday May 9, 2008
Tennis Prediction: World No.3 Novak Djokovic enters the third round in Rome with a victory over Steve Darcis. He brings a 21-5 mark into his upcoming match.
Winner of the Australian Open and the ATP Masters Series in Indian Wells, Djokovic is the bookies short-odds-on-favourite in this tournament. Few would bet against the Serb going one better at this stage of the tournament. Further recommending him is a 3-0 edge over Igor Andreev of Russia.
Andreev arrived in Rome with a 13-13 mark for the year; he has since improved to 15-13 with victories over Hyung-Taik Lee and Juan Monaco. Although Andreev is considered a bit of a clay court guru, the odds are against him in his upcoming match. At this level, even with surface advantage, Djokovic’s championship credentials trump.
Tennis Free Picks: Djokovic in straight sets
Tennis Betting Line: Fernando Gonzalez +140 Nicolas Almagro -180
Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time Thursday May 9, 2008
Tennis Prediction: Fernando Gonzalez kicked off his spring clay court season in winning fashion. He won the title in Munich last week – his second title of the year. He arrived in Rome with a 14-4 mark for the season, and after beating Evgeny Korolev in the second round, he improves to 15-4.
On the other hand, Nicolas Almagro arrived in Rome with a 25-8 mark for the year and two clay court titles as well – Costa do Sauipe and Acapulco. Almagro reaches the third round on the heels of solid performance, beating Robin Soderling and David Nalbandian en route to the R16. Both his victories were against quality players, which should give him added confidence coming into this match. Going against Almagro is a lack of consistency in high profile events like Rome.
In terms of handicapping this match, surface advantage is cancelled out, as both players are proficient clay courters. Gonzalez outranks Almagro, making him a good bet. However, the fast-rising Spaniard, who weighs in at No.21, has the game to beat Gonzalez. Should he keep his nerve, he may pull-off another upset to emerge in to the final eight.
Tennis Free Picks: Almagro in three sets
