ATP Tennis Betting Odds - Masters Series - Federer vs. Nalbandian
By Nila Amerova
Monte Carlo, Monaco – With a lot of the favourites coming into form in the R16 today, what the online tennis betting hamlet at BetUS Sportsbook has to look forward to are some tight matchups in the final eight. Perhaps the tightest of all the quarterfinal matchups set for tomorrow at the ATP Masters Series in Monte Carlo is the one between Roger Federer and David Nalbandian. The bookmakers tip both players as favourites, with Nalbandian edging ahead by the slightest of margins in favouritism. So when bookies struggle to decide which of the two players is the clear favorite and which the underdog, how does the tennis bettor approach betting on this match up? Is the price right? Will the online tennis betting market get it right?
Tennis Betting Line: Roger Federer -110 David Nalbandian -130
Match Time: 04:00 AM Eastern Time, Friday April 25, 2008
Tennis Prediction: Take one look at the record between these two players and you may begin to understand why the odds makers poised both players so delicately close to each other on the favorite plane. Lifetime, Federer is tied 8-8 with Nalbandian, with both meetings in 2007 going the way of Nalbandian, whereas, all four meetings in 2006 went the way of Federer.
Federer -110 After a shaky start to his ATP Masters Series Monte Carlo campaign, Federer got back on track with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Gael Monfils in the third round. Arriving into the quarterfinals – his third consecutive ATP Master Series quarterfinal of the year – Federer holds a 18-4 mark for the year which includes the Estoril Open title. There is no question the bookies have lost some faith in stoic Federer and his winning ways. When he used to win, win, win ...and win some more ... his favouritism on the money line was not even a question. Yet here we are today, contemplating whether we should back the Swiss maestro! And, he is marginally disadvantaged to boot! Are you kidding!
Nalbandian -130 No.7 David Nalbandian picked up a clay court title earlier this year in his home event in Buenos Aires and finished runner-up in Acapulco. He arrived in Monte Carlo with a 17- 4 mark for the year. Nalbandian is making his second quarterfinal appearance of the year at an ATP Masters Series event – in Indian Wells, he lost to Mardy Fish in the final eight.
Betting Verdict: Lately the online tennis betting community is faced with a conundrum when contemplating a wager on Federer. In the past, questioning a bet on Federer would not merit a second thought. You bet on the Swiss and were almost always guaranteed to win—unless of course, the surface was clay and his opponent was Rafael Nadal. Today is a different reality. Nevertheless, I still feel that Federer can carve out the victory in this match. I don’t expect it to be an easy one, but taking Federer is still a good play by me.
