Match Time: 5:30 PM Eastern Time, Friday, February 29, 2008
Tennis Prediction: David Nalbandian of Argentina is riding a 10-match winning streak, which includes a title win in Buenos Aires last week. Nalbandian has only lost one match this season, at the R32 of the 2008 Australian Open (l. Jose Carlos Ferrero).
On his title run in Buenos Aires, only two out five matches were straight set victories; but in Acapulco, Nalbandian has yet to drop a set. En route to the semifinal, Nalbandian posted a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Boris Pashanski (R32); 6-2, 6-3 victory over Santiago Ventura (R16); and a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Potito Starace (Q). Betting on Nalbandian to win the first set at -250, and continue his fine form, at -350 on the moneyline to win outright, into the final would be a good play.
Tennis Free Picks: Nalbandian in straight sets
Tennis Betting Line:
Jose Acasuso +2 -110 +150 Over 23 -110
Nicolas Almagro -2 -130 -200 Under 23 -130
Jose Acasuso (1st set) +120
Nicolas Almagro (1st Set) -160
Match Time: 9:30 PM Eastern Time, Friday February 29, 2008
Tennis Prediction: Spaniard No.28 Nicolas Almagro owns a 5-2 record over Argentinean No.46 Jose Acasuso, which is comprised of six clay court meetings with the last five of the overall seven meetings going in favour of Almagro. The most recent win Almagro posted over Acasuso was in Auckland (hard).
After coming from behind for the victory in the quarterfinal over Nicolas Massu, Almgaro improved to 13-2 for the season, which includes one ATP title. Before Massu, Almagro had not dropped a set in his match.
Jose Acasuso has enjoyed a sensational two weeks of tournament play. Last week, at his home event in Buenos Aires, he finished runner-up (l. to David Nalbandian) and this week, in Acapulco, he is one victory away from the final and a possible re-match over compatriot Nalbandian.
Acasuso will vie to snap his five-match losing streak against Almagro. If his hot form continues, he would be a good bet. At +150 on the moneyline, Acasuso is an underdog well-worth considering.
Tennis Free Picks: Almagro in three sets
