AFL Football Betting Odds - Georgia Force vs. Utah Blaze

by Mike Rose

Even though it's early in the season, it could be do-or-die time for both the Georgia Force (1-3) and the Utah Blaze (0-4). Both teams are coming off losses on the last play of the game, as Georgia lost in Orlando 50-45, while Utah was upended 52-49 in Columbus. If the playoffs were to start today, these two teams would both be amongst the five that don't qualify for the second season. Force Head Coach Doug Plank and Blaze Head Coach Danny White are familiar with one another, as Plank served under White while the two coached in Arizona.

The Force must be considered the team with the worst luck thus far in 2008. The team has 11 players on their injured list, five of which are defensive backs. To make matters worse, the officials in their most recent game in Orlando made an incredibly questionable call on the final play of the game when WR Charles Pauley appeared as though he had run in the game-winning TD as time expired. QB Chris Greisen has been solid throwing 21 TDs against just 4 INTs, but just in case anything should happen to Greisen, the Force signed 15-year QB veteran Andy Kelly as a backup.

The Blaze are off to the worst start in their brief franchise history, but all isn't lost quite yet for Danny White's squad. Only two teams don't make the playoffs in the American Conference, and since the Kansas City Brigade are also winless and two other teams have just one victory, their situation may not be quite as dire as Georgia's. Joe Germaine leads the AFL with 26 TD passes, but it's the defense that is letting down Utah for the 3rd straight season. Newly acquired DB Damon Mason notched only the 2nd INT of the season in last week's loss to Columbus, but the defense still failed, allowing 32 points to be scored on them in the 2nd half.

Utah opened up this game as a slight underdog, but the line has switched to favoring the Blaze by a deuce. The total is a lofty 114. You can get down on all of this action right now at BetUS.com!!! Backing the Blaze has to be tough, since they have failed to cover a game this season and are now 3-10-1 ATS in their L/14 games. Four of the last 6 games that Utah’ competed in have gone over the set 114. The Force are a woeful 1-3 against the number this season, and 1-4 in their L/5. Of their L/8 games with a total of at least 110, 6 have failed to reach the number. Will it be the mentor or the student that prevails in this match-up between two teams desperately in need of a win? Tune in Saturday night and fund out!
