AFL Football Betting – New Orleans VooDoo vs. Dallas Desperados
By Mike Rose
The Arena Football betting players will watch and bet on Division leaders colliding Friday evening when the (5-1) New Orleans Voodoo invades the American Airlines Center to two-step with the (6-0) Dallas Desperados. The Voodoo have come out of nowhere this season after a putrid 2007 campaign to grab the Southern Division by the horns and make it their own. Entering Week 7 action, New Orleans is a solid 5-1 SU and ATS overall, and 1-1 SU and ATS on the road. They own a one-game lead over the Orlando Predators for the top spot in the Southern Division, but they also hold the tiebreaker since they already beat them back in Week 2. Dallas has steamrolled its way to a perfect 6-0 start this year, but what’s most impressive about their play is the fact that they’ve done it without their field general, QB Clint Dolezel. The Desperados are currently tied atop the Eastern Division with the also undefeated Philadelphia Soul. They’re 4-2 ATS overall and 2-1 ATS within the comfy confines of their own arena.

N’awlens Head coach Mike Neu has done a tremendous job turning the VooDoo’s fortune around after they suffered through a grotesque season a year ago. The season started off rough at Los Angeles, but since then, this team has mopped the field with just about every one of its opponents. Last week saw them take the defending ArenaBowl Champion San Jose Sabercats out behind the woodshed and give them a good old-fashioned Cajun whipping. They boast the leagues 4th ranked offensive attack averaging a shade over 60 PPG, and the 3rd ranked defensive unit allowing opponents just under 48 PPG. In last weeks game against San Jose, the VooDoo were outgained 336-265, but they won the turnover battle 3:0 and made the most of their extra possessions to turn the game into a laugher. When the dust cleared the VooDoo won by a 72-43 final count, and New Orleans backers rejoiced as they easily covered the three-point spread.
You have to give it up to Head Coach Will McClay for keeping his club extremely focused after their MVP went down with a shoulder injury in the first game of the season. Back-up QB Chris Sanders did an admirable job filling in up until last week when Dolezel returned to the huddle to lead the Desperados to their sixth win of the season against the Cleveland Gladiators. He went on to complete 18-0f-20 passes for 220 yards and 5 Td’s, but it wasn’t enough to allow Dallas to cover the lofty 12-point spread. Dallas enters tonight match-up owning the leagues 12th ranked offensive attack averaging 49.7 PPG, and the #1 ranked defense allowing a shade under 43 PPG.
These clubs participated in an epic battle last season that saw the Desperados hold on for the 80-79 home victory. They came nowhere close to covering the lofty 16-point spread, and the combined 159 points easily surpassed the 110-point posted ‘total’. The VooDoo won the only other meeting between these clubs back in 2005 when they upended the Desperados 53-51 as three-point road pups.
Oddsmakers have tagged Dallas 6.5-points better than the VooDoo with the ‘total’ set at 103. You can get down on both the ‘side’ and ‘total’ for this crucial National Conference showdown at BetUS.com right now!!!
