AFL Arena Football Wagering – Tampa Bay vs. San Jose
by Mike Rose
AFL bettors get another late Saturday night helping of Arena Football betting action to sink their teeth into when the (7-7) Tampa Bay Storm invade HP Pavilion to take on the (9-5) San Jose Sabercats. The Storm held an offensive showcase in their Week 16 triumph over their archrival Orlando Predators, 71-61, last Saturday night making their AFL betting backers very happy in the process. It was the first time Tampa Bay had scored 70 points in a game in over two seasons. The win kept Coach Tim Marcum’s Storm alive in a heated race for the final playoff spots in the National Conference. Tampa Bay has covered the spread in their last five outings and is 6-0-1 ATS in their last seven games. Their run looks a lot like last year when they won eight of their last nine to qualify for a home playoff game.
The Sabercats should be refreshed and ready to continue to pounce on their competition after their Week 15 bye. In their last outing, the defending champs knocked-out the Los Angeles Avengers by a 66-56 final count. The Cats are on a hot streak of their own, winning six of their last seven games, and going 5-1-1 ATS during that stretch. Head Coach Darren Arbet’s club has rebounded from a sluggish start by San Jose standards, and now finds themselves one game away from clinching their third straight Western Division championship. Should Chicago lose this week in Georgia, they will still be in the running for the #1 seed and homefield advantage until ArenaBowl XXII. The Sabercats will look to build upon their impressive home marks Saturday night where they’re 4-1-1 ATS in the friendly confines of HP Pavilion in 2008, and 15-4-1 ATS in their last 20 home games (17-3 SU).
Oddsmakers tagged the SaberCats 6-points better than the visiting Storm for this contest with the ‘total’ set at a lofty 110.5. BetUS.com offers all the Week 16 Arena Football lines, so be sure to log into your account before the opening kick at 10:30 ET.
This just looks to be a great spot to back the home side once again, as the Storm are traveling across the country, while the SaberCats have been resting at home for a week. With the relatively short line though, oddsmakers might be of the belief that the Storm will continue to fight for their playoff lives.
Tampa Bay is grasping for everything it can find in the all-time series against the SaberCats. They’ve lost 7 of their 8 meetings with San Jose since 2002 (3-5 ATS), including a 69-49 beatdown in San Jose in the 2007 season.
The luck for Tim Marcum and the Storm seems to be running out. They couldn’t have asked for a much more difficult game to keep their season alive, and barring a tremendous effort, should be eliminated from playoff contention this weekend, as San Jose gets set to lift another divisional championship into the rafters.
