AFL Arena Football Betting –Voodoo vs. Force
By Mike Rose
Southern Division action gets a shot in the arm Saturday evening when the division leading and (7-2) New Orleans VooDoo invade the Gwinnett Center to take on the (3-5) Georgia Force. These clubs look to be impersonating one another this season, as it was Georgia that won out in the Southern Division a season ago, while the VooDoo suffered through a tumultuous 2007 campaign holding up the rear of the division. At least the city of New Orleans gets to watch some good football after the Saints grossly underachieved this past NFL season. That said, along with winning seven of their nine games SU, and the VooDoo have put cash in their backers pockets by going 7-2 ATS. They’re 2-2 SU and ATS on the road, but their last road game saw them crush the same Arizona Rattlers Georgia just lost to last week. Georgia completely revamped its roster this past off-season, and things just haven’t looked right from day one. They’ve killed their backers this year going 2-6 ATS; tonight’s contest looks as if they’ll add another one to the loss column.
New Orleans has pulled off a complete 180 from last season. Last years defense was an absolute sieve, and the offense didn’t catch on until the last month of the season. The same can’t be said in 2008. The offense currently ranks 4th averaging a shade under 60 PPG due in large part to the performance of QB Danny Wimprine. He’s come from out of nowhere this season to throw for 2175 yards and boasts a solid TD/INT ratio of 48/3. Most impressive though has been the play of the 5th ranked defense that’s locked down on its opponents limiting them to a measly 48 points per contest. On top of that, the secondary boasts a pair of ball hawks in Norman LeJeune and Calvin spears who’ve combined to pick opposing QB’s off 13 times this season. New Orleans level play is the reason why they currently sit in the top spot of the division.
The same can’t and won’t be said of Head Coach Doug Plank’s Georgia Force. Their three wins this season came against opponents ranked in the lower third of the league in terms of defense (LA, Utah, and KC). When matched up against one of the premiere teams in the league, they’ve fallen flat on their faces. They looked to have Orlando defeated at home a couple weeks back up 10 with a little over five minutes to go, but they choked and allowed the Preds to outscore them 13-0 the rest of the way. It’s hard to expect them to come close to the output of the last few seasons with so much turnover this past off-season, but it looks as if they cut off too much of the fat now that they’re firmly entrenched in last place of the division.
Oddsmakers made the New Orleans VooDoo a one-point choice in this spot with the ‘total’ set at 114. You can get down on both the ‘side’ and ‘total’ at BetUS.com right now!!!
Georgia is 1-4 ATS its L/4 games at home, but they’re 4-1 SU and ATS the L/5 times they’ve taken on New Orleans.
