AFL Arena Football Betting – AFL Betting Power Poll

by Mike Rose

1) Chicago Rush (8-2/0-0) (4-5 ATS) (LW: 1) Chicago heads into its ‘bye’ week off a nice game at Tampa Bay that saw them pull away in the second half to secure their eighth win of the season. The 51-46 final count saw them push on the five-point spread preventing AFL Bettors from making any coin, and the 97 combined points unfortunately fell short of the closing ‘total’ of 107. Overall, Arena Football bettors have gone 5-4-1 ATS backing the Rush, and juiced out playing their totals (5-5 ATS). They clinched a playoff spot in Week 11 without even playing a game after San Jose upended the Arizona Rattler last weekend. The Rush boast the 2nd ranked offense scoring close to 59 PPG, and the league’s second ranked stop unit allowing opponents a shade over 46 points per contest. They’ll welcome in the Los Angeles Avengers to the All State Arena for Monday night’s ESPN2 online sports wagering contest.

2) Philadelphia Soul (9-2/0-1) (6-5 ATS) (LW: 2) It was truly shocking to see the Soul simply implode in the final quarter of their game at Georgia last Monday night. Up 62-41 with 7:25 left to go in the game with Soul backers already counting their money, Philly completely lost it and fell by a 62-61 final count. Still, the Soul are by far the premiere squad in this league who played without a number of their stars in their second loss in as many weeks. They boast a pair of successful QB’s, the fifth ranked defense surrendering a shade over 50 PPG, and the #1 ranked offense lighting the scoreboard up for a whopping 64 PPG. However, they’ve let their AFL bettors down the last couple weeks by not covering in either game, and now stand 6-5 ATS this season. They’ll welcome in Columbus who they simply destroyed by a 76-55 final count back in Week 8.

3) Dallas Desperados (9-1/1-0) (5-4-1 ATS) (LW: 3) The Desperados looked to be a sure bet to mop the floor with the Grand Rapids Rampage, but once again they struggled and went on to win the game by a 65-54 final count. The 11-point victory saw them push the 11-point spread, and the 119 combined points soared over the closing ‘total’ of 101.5 After going 10-6 ATS in the regular season last year, offshore oddsmakers seem to have a better grasp of 2008’s version since they’re just 5-4-1 ATS throughout their first 10 games. They’ve only managed to cover one of their last six overall making them great fade material for AFL bettors of late. They’ll match their top raked defense allowing less than 46 PPG against the Arizona Rattlers 14th ranked offensive attack that’s averaged a shade over 50 PPG this season. Dallas has won 37 of its last 42 regular-season contests and can establish its fourth 10-win season in the team’s seven-year history with a win.

4) New York Dragons (6-4/1-0) (6-4 ATS) (LW: 6) The Dragons have quietly won five games in a row to get back into the thick of the Eastern Division race. Last week’s win on the west coast is one this franchise is known for lying down in. Head Coach Harding’s men might just be for real this season. They’ll look to improve upon their 4-1 SU and 5-0 ATS mark in the Nassau Coliseum this week when they take on the revitalized Georgia Force in what looks to be a super National Conference battle.

5) New Orleans Voodoo (7-4/0-1) (7-4 ATS) (LW: 5) The Voodoo still remains in the fifth spot even though they’ve lost the last couple weeks on the road at Georgia and Tampa Bay. We’ll see if they can bounce back in the comfy confines of “The Graveyard” before we drop this first place club a couple notches in the poll. A loss to Georgia this week will solidify the fact that they’ve run out of steam after getting out to a fabulous start.

6) Cleveland Gladiators (6-4/1-0) (5-4-1 ATS) (LW: 7) What a difference retooling the roaster and moving the entire franchise makes. The Las Vegas Gladiators were the laughing stock of the league the last three seasons, but that hasn’t been the case this year where they’ve won six of their 10 games, which includes their 4-1 SU and 3-1-1 ATS mark at home. They’ve already had wins under the belts against New York and Philadelphia, and can now add one against Orlando whom they mopped the floor with last Saturday night. They hit the road to take on Colorado who handed them their only home loss of the season back in Week 7.

7) Orlando Predators (7-4/0-1) (6-4-1 ATS) (LW: 4) The Preds have been playing some real shoddy ball over the last month and should consider themselves very luck to have gone 2-2 SU their L/4 overall. They pulled off a miraculous comeback in the 4th quarter at Georgia a month ago, lost at home to Tampa Bay after that, were the beneficiaries of five San Jose turnovers to pull away late, and then just got their salad tossed by Cleveland last week. On top of that, they just lost rookie WR Chas Gessner to the Seattle Seahawks who signed the NFL contract earlier this week. They’ll have the week off to figure out what’s wrong before they visit Kansas City in Week 13.

8) Georgia Force (5-5)/1-0) (4-6 ATS) (LW: 9) Head Coach Doug Plank and his staff have done another tremendous coaching job this season to help turn the Force’s fortunes around the last couple weeks. At 3-5 with games against division leaders the next two week, the Force managed home win and covers against both New Orleans and Philadelphia to get right back into the Southern Division race. This club had a ton of turnover in the off-season, but the new guys finally seem to be gelling and this club looks to be dangerous once again. They’ll try not to letdown after their big Monday night win when they travel to New York to take on the streaking Dragons.
