ACC College Basketball – Virginia vs. Georgia Tech
By Eric Williams
The tenth-seeded Virginia Cavaliers, (15-14 SU, 13-11 ATS, 11-13 O/U), take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, (14-16 SU, 14-14 ATS, 18-10 O/U), tonight in the opening round of the ACC Championship at the Charlotte Bobcats Arena and both teams enter the contest with identical 4-6 records in their last ten games.
The winner of Thursday's game will advance to face Duke, the No. 2 seed on Friday, with the winner of that matchup advancing to the semifinal game on Saturday.
Georgia Tech has won two consecutive games in the BetUS.com Sportsbook and three of their last four including a solid 86-78 win over Boston College last Saturday while Virginia has won two of their last three and four of six including an emphatic 91-76 win over Maryland on Sunday.
The teams split their regular-season series with each team winning on the other's home court. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Cavaliers in overtime, 92-82, on Jan. 27, while Virginia came back to win 76-74, Mar. 3 in Atlanta on a late three-point basket in a game that was postponed from its original date of Feb. 21.
The Cavaliers are averaging 76.8 points per game on 43.3 percent shooting while allowing 73.8 points per game on 44.3 percent shooting.
The Yellow Jackets are averaging 77.3 points per game on 46.9 percent shooting but are allowing more points per game, (75.8 ppg on 45.2 percent shooting) than they are scoring this season.
Here is a look at tonight’s Key Trends, followed by my NCAA Basketball Free Picks.
The Cavaliers are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall.
The Cavaliers are 6-1 ATS in their last seven vs. Atlantic Coast.
The Yellow Jackets are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
The Yellow Jackets are 4-1 ATS in their last five vs. Atlantic Coast.
The Under is 4-0 in Cavaliers last four games after scoring more than 90 points in their previous game.
The Over is 5-1 in Yellow Jackets last six neutral site games.
The Cavaliers are 3-11-1 ATS in the last 15 meetings.
Analysis: I think Georgia Tech is the correct pick for tonight’s contest in this matchup of two very evenly matched teams as they will likely be looking for some serious revenge after losing to the Cavaliers on a last-second shot in their last meeting after spanking the Cavaliers by ten in overtime earlier this season.
