2008 Pittsburgh Steelers Regular Season Win Total Odds

by Eric Williams

After posting a solid 10-6 record for the BetUS NFL online sports wagering community in head coach Mike Tomlin’s first season in 2007, the Pittsburgh Steelers, (10-6 SU, 8-8 ATS, 8-8 O/U) figure to be even better in 2008 because of experience if nothing else.

While the New England Patriots, San Diego Chargers and Indianapolis Colts, not to mention, the Jacksonville Jaguars, are all getting more national attention for their respective chances to reach Super Bowl XLIII, the Steelers could surprise everyone to come out of the AFC pack in 2008.

Here is a look at the Steelers’ 2008 regular season schedule in the BetUS Sportsbook, followed by my brief comments on each matchup and overall analysis of the Steelers’ 2008 season.

09/07/08 Houston Texans

The Steelers get their season started off with a solid victory here. Win

09/14/08 @Cleveland Browns

I say these two teams spilt this season with the Browns winning here. Loss

09/21/08 @Philadelphia Eagles

This is a very tough road contest that Pittsburgh loses closely. Loss

09/29/08 Baltimore Ravens

The Steelers get back on track in a big way in this matchup. Win

10/05/08 @Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars are legitimate conference title contenders this season. Loss

BYE

10/19/08 @Cincinnati Bengals

The dysfunctional Bengals are going down in this contest in a big way. Win

10/26/08 New York Giants

Something tells me the Steelers get a big road win here. Win

11/03/08 @Washington Redskins

The young Redskins aren’t in the same class as the Steelers just yet. Win

11/09/08 Indianapolis Colts

This could be the AFC title game preview. I say Pittsburgh wins narrowly. Win

11/16/08 San Diego Chargers

They don’t beat two of the best AFC teams two weeks in a row, even at home. Loss

11/20/08 Cincinnati Bengals

The Steelers complete their season sweep in this contest. Win

11/30/08 @New England Patriots

I’d love to see the Pats lose in this matchup, but they won’t. Loss

12/07/08 Dallas Cowboys

Take the Steelers genuine substance over the Cowboys’ flashiness. Win

12/14/08 @Baltimore Ravens

I smell the completion of another division sweep in this contest. Win

12/21/08 @Tennessee Titans

If the Titans can score some points, they win here. Loss

12/28/08 Cleveland Browns

Pittsburgh closes out their regular season with some serious revenge! Win

Steelers Regular Season Wins

Over 9 Regular Season Wins -150

Under 9 Regular Season Wins +110

Analysis: I think the Steelers should be good for ten wins in 2008 as they take another step forward under Tomlin and genuinely believe this team could surprise even the rest of the AFC powerhouses in a big way. Either way, I like Pittsburgh to surpass the nine-win season total that oddsmakers have set for the Steelers.
