Playing Poker like the Spider

Patience is a virtue or so the saying goes. The reason why patience is a virtue is because so much good can come as a result of simply being patient. This is exactly the case with online poker. There is a definite need for immediacy not just with poker results but with results of any kind. If only more people had the patience to wait for things to happen then more and more people would end up living happier and stress free lives.
Playing poker and the aspect of patience with regards poker is critical to your long term success. The arrival of rakeback and the ability to be able to get back a large percentage of your rake was a massive step forward for certain types of poker player. The solid patient full-ring player who could sit and grind all day long was suddenly being rewarded even more for folding.
This concept of sitting back and letting the effect of the rakeback payments take their effect along with patiently waiting for your less skilled opponents to make mistakes is not just a profitable way to play but it is also a very good way to play for many players who lack certain poker skills.
This kind of reminds me of how the spider catches his prey, it spins a web and then sits and waits and it will wait for however long it takes. In no way does it try to force things too much and it just allows time and nature to take their course and it is rewarded in the end.
But the concept of sitting and waiting is one that is more prevalent in no-limit ring games than it is in say six max games or heads up games as in these games then aggressive play is the norm. It was always difficult for me to play full-ring games as I didn’t have the mentality to sit and grind and wait for profits. I liked to actively go out there and create opportunities as this suited my style far better.
Although having the option to multi-table certainly made the process easier as I was always having to make a decision somewhere when I was playing eight tables. Some players just do not have the skills or the mindset to play powerful high variance aggressive poker. There is nothing wrong with this and to make money in poker, you should be striving to do things that suit your personality. If you can find this delicate balance then you will be far nearer to reaching your goal as a successful poker player.
