How Important is poker education?

Getting your poker education is of course a critical step. But it is also a very difficult step for the simple reason being that many of the sources of education will no longer be current or working. This can be the case with many of the books that were written years ago. The fact of the matter is that there has been something of a technological revolution in online poker of late.

This has led to the game becoming totally different to what it was several years ago. All industries change, and when they change then the people within them have to change. If the owner of a clothes shop didn’t update his stock with all of the latest fashions then they wouldn’t remain in business for very long.

Poker is no different to any other business in that it changes constantly. The sites bring in new games, they bring in the facility to multi-table, they introduce rakeback etc. All of these have an impact on not just proper strategy but also what the average player is doing. So if you are going to get your education then you had better make sure that the information is not only current but is also by people who are successful in that field.

So just how long is a poker education? Well that all depends on what you mean. You never stop learning about poker, the game is far too complex for that. But if you mean how long does it take to be able to make money then that is a different story. I would advise any player to join a respected coaching site and at least then they are getting information that is relevant from people within the industry.

This was a mistake that I learnt to my cost earlier in my career as I simply read the wrong material by the wrong people. If you do this then your poker education will take far longer than it should do and you may even find yourself never reaching that hallowed ground of being a consistent winner at all.
