The USA looking ominously strong for the Caesars Cup
by BetUS Staff

During the up and coming World Series of Poker Europe, there will be another high profile event that will be staged alongside the main events. The Caesars Cup is a special televised poker event that will match the very best from both sides of the Atlantic. Team America will field eight players as will team Europe and the Captains have already been chosen. To lead team America we have no less than Daniel Negreanu, no doubt one of the greatest players to play the game over the last few years and multiple title winner.
Team Europe have not only adopted a more youthful captain but have also gone for an entirely different sex. Winner of the 2007 main even at the World Series of Poker Europe Annette Obrestad will prove to be an interesting pick for the Europeans and this may be a selection that may upset a few big named European players.
This event will take place on the 26th September during the WSOPE at the Empire Casino in London. The first round saw the Americans plump for even more experience by naming eleven time bracelet winner and poker “brat” Phil Hellmuth in their line up. To match that they have also chosen another hugely experienced pro in John Juanda. When you throw non other than Phil Ivey into the mix then that is one awesome line up.
Europe on the other hand have the reigning World Series of Poker Champion (until November anyway) Peter Eastgate as part of their line up along with online sensations Dario Minieri and Bertrand Grospellier.
This Ryder Cup type event should prove to be hugely popular on both sides of the Atlantic and while the USA will start favourites and rightly so, do not be so quick to write the Europeans off. If this event really takes off then the television ratings could well turn this into one of the most high profile televised events in the poker calendar. Both captains have yet to finalise their teams so this should ensure plenty of heated debate as to who should be there and who shouldn’t.
