The Predators let Tomas Vokoun sail farther south because they believed he wasn’t worth the coin. The Panthers, who have desperately tried to fill the massive void left by Roberto Luongo (now in Vancouver) picked him up and will find out the hard way exactly why the Preds saw fit to give him walking papers.

Olli Jokinen is one of the best players in the NHL and is entering his prime, but he has zero help in Florida. Zero. None. Nathan Horton continues to improve (he had 31 goals last season) but he is nowhere near the level where teams can split their defensive focus away from Jokinen. Richard Zednik used to be the best skater in the league, but the wheels have come off and Jozef Stumpel has been an absolute letdown his entire career.

If we’re sounding a bit hard on the Panthers, it’s because nobody should be getting their hopes up like everyone usually does when the NHL season starts up – especially NHL bettors. Bryan Allen, all 6-foot-4 of him will continue to be the bright spot on the blue line, but the Panthers are headed for another disastrous season.
