Nevada Wolf Pack - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting

The Wolfpack finished 2006 with a record of 8-5, disappointing coaches and fans alike with that showing. Head coach Chris Ault expects to do much better in 2007, even with offensive leader Jeff Rowe gone.

The “Pistol” offense remains intact with sophomore Nick Graziano and three offensive linemen back to start. They comprise the core of a small returning group of just five returning offensive starters (along with wideouts Mike McCoy and Marko Mitchell). Lost is receiver Caleb Spencer (570 yards) and the team’s top rusher Robert Hubbard (996 yards), not to mention the leadership and nearly 2,000 passing yards from Rowe. Luke Lippincott will replace Hubbard, having rushed for nearly 500 yards and nine scores as his backup one year ago. Senior wideout Kyle Sammons missed all of 2006 with a shoulder injury and should help the offense with his speed off the line. It will be tough to replicate last year’s 30 PPG, which ranked 20th nationally, but the offense should be up to task.

The Wolfpack ranked 55th in yards allowed in 2006, while giving up an even stingier 19 PPG. With a 5-3 conference record, and the WAC’s second-best defense, there is no reason why this team cannot compete again in 2007. Seven guys are back on the defensive side of the ball. The linebacking core will lead by example this fall while employing its 3-4 scheme. Nevada linebackers Ezra Butler, Jeremy Engstrom and Joshua Mauga should clog the middle of the field. The secondary took a big hit by losing top playmaking cornerback Joe Garcia and his partner Nick Hawthrone. Paul Pratt and free safety Jonathon Amaya will take over control in the back four.
