Louisiana Tech Bulldogs - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting

The conference’s ‘other’ Bulldogs were just 3-10 in 2006 and mired in the conference cellar with Utah State at 1-7. Louisiana Tech will look for better things this fall with new coach Derek Dooley at the controls.

The bright spots for the Bulldogs are quarterback Zac Champion and an experienced offensive line. Four are back on that line to protect the senior who threw for 2,466 yards and 14 touchdowns in ’06. Also joining him in the backfield is top rusher Patrick Jackson (854 yards, 7 touchdowns). Champion struggled at times last season and with receivers adjusting to his limitations, Jackson might be called on to shoulder more of the load early in the season. La. Tech ranked 60th in total yardage last year but those numbers didn’t translate into scoring. The Bulldogs ranked 97th at just 18.6 PPG - a number that needs to improve by at least one score if they are going to compete in the high-paced conference. Wideouts Daniel Porter and William Griffin will line up on opposite ends of the field. Last season, they combined for over 600 yards and bring the experience to bring Champion along in the passing game.

Nine Tech defensive starters return in hopes of improving the worst statistical unit in the nation. They ranked dead last at 119th in the country with 483 yards allowed and 41.7 points given up each game, but there is hope, with last season’s leaders back to make amends. Linebacker Quin Harris led the team in tackles with 95, while Chris Pugh returns as their sack leader. Shalamar Walker, who led the team in picks with three, and inside linebackers Brannon Jackson and Anthony Crosby will also assist Harris in the middle this fall.
