Hawaii Warriors - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting

If you could stay up late enough to see them play, the Warriors were one of the great surprises of 2006 and surely one of the most exciting teams to watch. They finished second in the WAC, just a game back of Boise, and rode an unbelievable season from QB Colt Brennan to an 11-3 record.

Hawaii returns 15 starters to fight for the league title in ’07, a season that could have Heisman written all over it for Brennan. He threw for 5,549 yards and set a new single-season touchdown record with 58 scores in 2006. In all, he broke 16 NCAA records and put his name in Hawaii’s record book beside 25 statistical categories. His receivers - Davone Bess, Ryan Grice-Mullen and Jason Rivers - serve as constant threats in the passing game, having accounted for 3,100 yards, 36 touchdowns and more than 200 receptions as a trio. The offense does lose the bruising running of Nate Ilaoa, but this pass-happy style of attack is better suited to heaving the pigskin. Ranked first overall in scoring last season, the Warriors scored nearly 47 PPG, picking up 440 yards through the air and nearly 570 YPG in all. They scored 140 points more than any other school, and more of the same is forthcoming this fall on the mainland.

The defense was a little sketchy, ranked 93rd in yards allowed. They did give up a reasonable number of points at just 24.1 PPG, and this unit should be better in 2007 with eight starters returning. Linebackers Solomon Elimimian and Adam Leonard shore up the middle while safety Jacob Patek looks to help replace departing free safety Leonard Peters. Lost also are defensive ends Ikaika Alama-Francis and Melila Purcell, combining for 99 tackles and 13.5 sacks as a tandem.
