Paul McCall is the frontrunner for the starting quarterback’s job, however redshirt freshman Wayne Younger is making waves after he flourished in the team’s spring game. Younger did well with both his arm and legs this spring, finding the endzone twice while rushing for 80 yards.

The Panthers’ cellar-dwelling spot in the division was indisputably evident in all statistical categories. FIU finished 116th nationally with 233.1 yards per game and a dismal 9.6 PPG scoring average. Fortunately, the Sun Belt’s overall lack of offense helped the Panthers on the defensive side. FIU did rank an amazing 28th in yards allowed (300.9) despite their winless season. Preventing opponents from scoring was the real issue, as they gave up more than 26 PPG. The defensive unit lost top tackler Keyonvis Bouie (119 tackles) as well as Alexander Bostic and his eight sacks. Cornerback Lionell Singleton and his five interceptions will boost the secondary along with safety Jeremiah Weatherspoon.
