Florida Atlantic Owls - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting

The Owls were one of the six Sun Belt teams in 2006 that had a losing record, despite their 4-3 mark within the conference. Florida Atlantic shared second place with Arkansas State, however 5-7 overall leaves a lot to be improved upon. With 19 starters returning, FAU can look to a brighter future. As usual, they will have to weather a brutal non-conference slate during the first five weeks, but should find themselves in the hunt the rest of the way.

Quarterback Rusty Smith (1,285 yards) is slated to shine in the backfield alongside top rusher Charles Pierre (756 yards). Smith’s top aerial threat, Frantz Simeon, returns to form a tough trio on offense. Wideout Jason Harmon will line up on the opposite side of Simeon as the Owls’ No. 2 receiver. Freshman Chris Bonner or Lestar Jean will also factor into the passing game as targets. Another emerging name in the backfield is fullback Willie Rose. He’ll look to fill the large shoes of departed tailback Aaron Sanchez. Statistically, things can only improve from their 99th-place ranking as an offensive unit. Totaling just 297.3 YPG and scoring just 15.1 PPG last season, Florida Atlantic will likely enjoy better production with a more experienced and talented team in ’07.

The Owls need to crack down on defense, while bolstering that sputtering attack to make ground in the offensively challenged Sun Belt. After all, they get a Sept. 15 game televised nationally on ESPN360, so they look to shine in the spotlight against Minnesota.
