Kentucky Wildcats - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting
With nine wins in the previous three seasons combined, cellar dweller Kentucky took a big step forward winning eight games and upsetting Clemson in the Music City Bowl last year. But that was then and this is now. The Wildcats must prove that their success in the tough SEC wasn’t just a lucky, standings-climbing aberration.
The talent on offense cannot be denied. Ranked 31st last year, Kentucky has their offensive core returning, including senior QB Andre Woodson (31/7 TD/INT ratio last year), RB Rafael Little, and wideouts Keenan Burton and Dicky Lyons. Throw in talented TE Jacob Tamme and much-improved backs Tony Dixon and Alfonso Smith and this offense will be sure to put up some big numbers. One area of concern will be the O-line, which has been beset by injuries.
For most of last season, the Wildcat defense showed its youth, ranking an abysmal 118th. By the end of the year, however, they were able to hold Tennessee and Clemson to 37 total points. Newly promoted defensive coordinator Steve Brown inherits a D that’s returning 19 of 22 from the two-deep depth chart. Just like last year, they need experience, but the spring has looked promising. Special teams as well looks encouraging with Little and Burton on kickoffs. Kicking jobs are up for grabs as the Wildcats look towards freshman Wade Tydlacka to improve on last year’s struggles of K Lones Seiber and P Tim Masthay. The ’07 schedule looks tough with road trips to Arkansas, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Georgia. Kentucky also plays Louisville, LSU, Florida, and Tennessee. It’s been 25 years since the Wildcats have had back-to-back winning seasons and the schedule might prevent it from happening in 2007, but with the talented offense and all starters returning on defense, it may change this year.
