Georgia Bulldogs - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting

With a 4-4 record in the SEC last year, the worst in six seasons under Coach Mark Richt, Georgia was a Jeckyll-and-Hyde team during the 2006 season.  They were able to win at South Carolina and Auburn and beat rival Georgia Tech for the sixth straight time.  They also executed a huge rally to beat Virginia Tech in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, but inconsistency plagued them last year, due in no small part to the 90th ranked offense. That may improve this year because seven starters return, including QB Matt Stafford, who made eight starts as a frosh in 06.  New offensive coordinator Mike Bobo has come in and added numerous new looks to the promising offense, and the Bulldogs have improved in the receiver area. Senior WR Sean Bailey has finally returned from a knee injury in 05, and is looking like the go-to receiver Georgia has needed. There are still some issues with the RB position that will need to be addressed before September.

Last seasons successes were the direct result of a top-notch defense. Unfortunately, only three starters are returning, with two of them being in the secondary.  With so many positions up for grabs the defense has not looked good in the spring and defensive coordinator Willie Martinez is prepared to make some big changes if things don’t improve throughout the preseason.

The Bulldogs face some adversity in their schedule this season. They will be visiting Alabama, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Florida, and Georgia Tech. Ouch. The offense needs to meet expectations and the new defensive squad needs to toughen-up, and fast, if the Bulldogs hope to contend in the tough SEC this year, where there’s never much room for error.
