Arkansas Razorbacks - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting

Last November, the Razorbacks were 9-1, had clinched the SEC’s West Division and were national championship game contenders. Since then, the Arkansas football program has gone from juggernaut to train-wreck.

Arkansas lost their last game of the season to LSU, the SEC title game to Florida, and the Capital One Bowl to Wisconsin.  The bleeding continued in the offseason as quarterback Mitch Mustain, wide receiver Damian Williams, offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, and athletic director Frank Broyles all walked away from the team. With the loss of seven quality starters on defense and 10 starters in total, the Razorbacks have their work cut out for them. Casey Dick apparently is the quarterback, but has only five starts under his belt, however let’s face it, with a defense that ranked 26th and an offense that ranked 29th, there’s room for improvement. New offensive coordinator David Lee will run a traditional offense that utilizes tailbacks as receivers, passers, and returners. Sophomore linebacker Freddie Fairchild has returned from last season’s knee injury, which allows Matt Hewitt to return to his natural position at strong safety.

The team’s success this year is dependent on the same thing it was last year; its marquee running game. Juniors Darren McFadden and Felix Jones will carry the ball - and the team - to wherever it’s going to go this year.  The duo combined for 2,800 yards last year and with word that third-string tailback Michael Smith is playing well this spring the Razorbacks will have even more options on the ground this year. Early reports have the team already showing signs of improvement.  If they can control the clock on offense, develop the defense and if McFadden can have another Heisman-worthy season, they will be national contenders.
