Stanford Cardinal - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting

When you only manage one win in a season, a coaching change is inevitable. And it happened in Stanford, where the Cardinal hired Jim Harbaugh to start rebuilding the program. With an offense that ranked 118th in the country and a defense that was only slightly better at 97th, it will be difficult for Stanford to be much worse than it was last season. The team will have 15 starters back from last season as they search for some kind of answer.

Quarterback T.C. Ostrander is back after a season that saw the offense average just 10.6 PPG while allowing their quarterback to be sacked 50 times. If receivers Evan Moore and Mark Brandford are ready to go by the start of the season, the team might be able to implement Harbaugh's West Coast offense. Don't expect much from a running game. The good news is that the team returns its top three rushers from last year. The bad news is they averaged 65 yards a game last year. On defense, the Cardinal were easier to score on than a bunch of girls at a frat party. The fact that they gave up an average of 210 rushing yards per game might have had something to do with that. The defense will also be hurting from the loss of All-Pac-10 linebacker Michael Okwo. Clinton Snyder could be someone to look to in this department.

Freshman lineman Matthew Masifilo is projected as a first-year and he was touted as one of the nation’s top recruits. However, it still projects as a long and painful year in Stanford and to call this team a work in progress would be the understatement of the year. Stanford may find itself wishing its former NFL quarterback-turned-coach were a student who could take some snaps.
