Oregon State Beavers - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting

Oregon State started last season slowly, going just 2-3 in its first five games before turning the corner to upset USC and top Missouri in the Sun Bowl. This year's schedule presents an equally difficult task with four of the Beavers' first five games against 2006 bowl participants. Mike Riley's squad will see the return of 17 starters but one of those won't be a quarterback as Matt Moore has moved on, likely to be replaced by either Sean Canfield or Lyle Moevao (at 6 foot 4, the taller Canfield seems the likelier choice over the 5 foot 11 Moevao).

Whoever gets the role will benefit from the protection of a returning core of four linemen. Leading the offensive attack for OSU will be running back Yvenson Bernard, who is coming off his second straight 1,000-yard rushing season. Senior Clinton Polk, who rushed for 100 yards in the win over USC last season, will also be in the backfield. There is also great depth at receiver, with three returning starters including Sammie Stroughter (who also ran back three punts for TDs last season) and Brandon Powers. On defense, Oregon State returns nine starters. Leading the defense will be three returning linebackers - Alan Darlin, Derrick Doggett and Joey LaRocque. Anchoring the D-line will be Jeff Van Orsow (just ask USC's J.D. Booty about the impact he can have on a game), Dorian Smith and Curtis Coker, who will try to fill the void left by graduating tackle Ben Siegert.

The Beavers have the second toughest Pac 10 road schedule and will be in tough to replicate last season's success. But if they sort out the quarterback position, Bernard continues to play well, and the defense comes together, they could be a threat and cause headaches for opposing teams.
