Wyoming Cowboys - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting

Stuck in the middle of this conference for the last couple of seasons, the Cowboys will look to saddle up and climb towards the top of the Mountain West after their 6-6 finish in 2006. Seven starters are back on offense for a team that finished 5-3 in conference action. The Cowboys return five players on defense as well, so an under-the-radar Wyoming team should catch a couple of teams off guard if the schedule gets their opposition looking ahead at times.

Sophomore quarterback Karsten Sween is in line to be the man, but minor surgery kept him out during the spring game and JUCO transfer Ian Hetrick impressed with the opportunity. Sween threw for 1,304 yards and nine touchdowns last year as a freshman, however Hetrick was impressive during the spring to make things interesting. The junior went 20-for-31 with 269 passing yards and three scores in the team’s game, opening eyes for a possible switch at the starting position. Michael Ford is the team’s top receiver and led them in yards last year with 674 and four scores. Wynel Seldon, the team’s top rusher (610 yards), is also back. Seldon and tight end Wade Betschart should provide ample weapons for an effective offense.

The defense ranked ninth in the nation, but that all might change with a ton of talent out the door. Strong safety John Wendling, the team’s top tackler is gone, as are three important defensive linemen, notably defensive tackle Mike Groover and end Corey Mace. The secondary also took a hit with Dorsey Golston gone. The offense ranked 91st in offense a year ago, and if the defense sputters at all, trouble could be forthcoming. The Cowboys scored just 21.5 PPG and they will need to produce more to compensate for a defense that lost too much talent to rank ninth again in 2007.
