TCU Horned Frogs - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting
Two years removed from an outright and undefeated Mountain West title, the Horned Frogs still managed to go 11-2 in 2006 and finished second in the conference with a 6-2 record. And while the offense was efficient, the defense was dominant and clearly the class of the conference.
Defensive ends Tommy Blake and Chase Ortiz are back to anchor the front seven and wreak havoc against every opposing offensive line they face. Blake led the team last year with seven sacks. Certainly the loss of safety Marvin White, the team’s leading tackler (86) and top interception man (four), will hurt but they have the depth and skill players to fill right in. Cornerback Rafael Priest made strides a year ago as a starter, and he, along with fellow corner Nick Sanders and safety Brian Bonner. will do well to control the back lines in the secondary. This stingy unit was fifth in points allowed at 12.8 PPG, and they were even better in other categories. Only Virginia Tech, LSU and Wisconsin allowed fewer yards than TCU’s 249.5, as well as ranking fourth in the country with 67.6 rushing yards allowed.
Jeff Ballard is without a doubt the offense’s top loss, but the athletic Marcus Jackson should do fine in his spot. Also, add the kind of playmakers that TCU has and this offense will continue to produce points. Aaron Brown was the team’s top rusher last season with 828 yards and he should produce even more as the top option in the backfield. The wide receiver corps will need to replace Quentily Harmon, but several players such as Donald Massey and tight end Shae Reagan should help the cause. Sixteen starters in all return, and the Horned Frogs should be primed to compete strongly for the Mountain West title in 2007.
