Colorado State Rams - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting

Teams that go 3-1 in non-conference play often enjoy winning seasons. But not when the team goes 1-7 in conference action. The Rams return 20 total starters from 2006, including nine from both offense and defense, as they try to improve on that woeful Mountain West mark. Quarterback Caleb Hanie is back (2,427 passing yards), as is top rusher Gartrell Johnson (305 yards) and leading receiver Damon Morton (722 yards).

The oft-injured Kyle Bell also returns, and if he can stay healthy for a full season, fans can expect the Rams’ rushing attack to rate among the conference’s top backfields. Bell gained over 1,200 yards and accounted for 10 scores in 2005 before his season ended prematurely in ’06 because of an ACL tear. Also watch out for Michael Myers and redshirt freshman John Mosure to factor into the running attack, as they both impressed during spring ball. Wideouts Damon Morton and Johnny Walker will form a strong duo on the outside, having combined for over 1,300 yards through the air in 2006. Morton averaged 15 yards per catch and was second on the team with four touchdowns. Colorado State managed some success defensively in 2006, ranking 57th with a shade over 330 total yards allowed. They gave up just 22 PPG, and this unit should be considerably improved heading into 2007.

Safety and top returning tackler Klint Kubiak, who was credited with 90 tackles, is back, as are fellow defensive leaders Matt Rupp and cornerback Darryl Williams. The linebacking unit will have to account for the losses of both outside positions after graduating Luke Adkins and Jon Radford, who combined for 137 tackles last season. Senior Nathan Pauly looked good in spring ball and might have a leg up on one of those starting spots. The Rams should be a much tougher mark in 2007.
