Tulane Green Wave - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting

The Green Wave was last in the C-USA West in 2006 with a dreadful 2-6 conference slate and it might not get much better in 2007.  Tulane was carried by an offensive unit that ranked 21st in the nation in passing offense behind the talented trio of Scott Elliot, Anthony Scelfo and Kevin Moore. But the loss of QB Lester Richard will be the toughest one for Tulane to overcome, and new coach Bob Toledo tries to implement a West Coast offense.

Running back Matt Forte (163 attempts, 859 yards, 8 TD) will be crucial to Tulane’s success this season, and he will be anxious to get back on the field after missing the final three games of 2006 with a knee injury.  Receivers Damarcus Davis and Preston Brown are gone, leaving Jeremy Williams and a group of inexperienced receivers for the new quarterback.  On the other side of the ball, a far superior effort is needed from the defense. The Green Wave ranked near the bottom of the nation in total defense (108th), passing defense (113th) and scoring defense (113th).  There is some hope for the Green Wave up front, where they can put in seniors Antonio Harris, Frank Morton and Avery Williams. Defensive back David Skehan (80 tackles) is the undisputed leader of the secondary, but cornerback Israel Route is going to be tough to replace.

The Green Wave hosts Houston in its second game of the season, and will be trying to avenge last season’s 45-7 thrashing at the hands of the Cougars.  Tulane then closes out the season with back-to-back road games at Rice and East Carolina.  Tulane’s main goal should be to equal their 2006 tally of four wins (they finished 4-8 overall), because Richard’s graduation is a lethal blow to the offense.
