Texas A&M Aggies - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting

The Aggies made the Big 12 race interesting in 2006, losing to Nebraska and Oklahoma by one point each before upending Texas in the season finale. A&M was then hammered 45-10 by California in the Holiday Bowl, but coach Dennis Franchione will still go into this season full of confidence. The Aggies return nine starters on an offense which was 18th in the country in total offense and eighth on the ground, and quarterback Stephen McGee will have more chances to go down the field in 2007. This will bring balance to the Aggies’ offense, although they have a lethal running-back combination in Mike Goodison and Jorvorskie Lane.

Four starters are back on the O-line, which tied for 24th in the country in sacks allowed. It should mean McGee gets time to make his reads while the backs will have holes to run through. The lack of big-play receivers, however, could pose a problem to Franchione’s system. Seven starters return from last season’s 46th-ranked unit in total defense, led by defensive end Chris Harrington and Misi Tupe, who had a huge freshman season at middle linebacker.  Cornerbacks Jordan Peterson, Arkeith Brown and Danny Gorrer will give the Aggies one of the NCAA’s most dangerous secondaries.  On special teams, Kerry Franks is back to pace a kickoff-return group that was third in the country last season.

The Aggies head to Miami to meet the Hurricanes in the fourth game of the season, and a brutal road slate at Texas Tech, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Missouri will test the resolve of A&M.  The season finale at home against Texas is a game that is always circled on the calendar when the schedule comes out. The Aggies were very close to a magical 2006 season, and could break through in 2007 if the defense holds up.
