Oklahoma State Cowboys - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting

The Cowboys dropped three of their last four regular-season games in 2006, but rebounded with a 34-31 victory over Alabama in the Independence Bowl to finish at 7-6. Mike Gundy welcomes back eight starters to an offense which was 16th in the country in total offense, and should be even more explosive this season.  Quarterback Bobby Reid had a solid season under center, and the double threat of Dantrelle Savage and Keith Toston coming out of the backfield is enough to drive opposing defensive coordinators crazy. Adarius Bowman and tight end Brandon Pettigrew will have an increased roles in the offense with the departure of D’Juan Woods at receiver.

Three starters are back on what was a shaky offensive line, and this could be the only problem for Gundy. Seven starters are returning on defense, and the Cowboys were 89th in total defense last year.  The defensive line is in need of the biggest makeover, with three starters gone from that unit.  A lot rests on the availability of linebacker Chris Collins, who is in legal trouble. Collins had a phenomenal freshman season, and his loss would be crushing to the Cowboys. Oklahoma State was eighth in the nation in tackles for loss and 12th in sacks, and they may not be able to put that sort of pressure on opposing backfields without a good group up front, which featured the active Collins.

The special teams are in good shape as return specialist Perrish Cox returns, along with consistent kicker Jason Ricks. The Cowboys travel to Oklahoma and Nebraska, but a three-game home stand against Kansas State, Texas and Kansas will decide their season. The Cowboys have the firepower to compete with the rest of the conference. But they need to tighten the screws on defense just to get back to .500 in 2007.
