Missouri Tigers - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting
The Tigers can hold their heads high after a smashing 2006 season in which they were 8-5, including 4-4 in the Big 12. The season culminated with an exciting 39-38 loss to Oregon State in the Sun Bowl and coach Gary Pinkel is thrilled to have eight starters back from last season’s eighth-ranked offense. The lynchpin of the Mizzou attack is quarterback Chase Daniel, who some say will be even better than last year. Daniel was spectacular, and he has all of his main receivers from last season with him. Will Franklin, Danario Alexander and Tommy Saunders will have plenty of chances to make plays for Daniel. Not to mention, the Tigers have a wealth of talent at tight end in Martin Rucker and Chase Coffman and a possible 1,000-yard rusher in Tony Temple.
The Tigers could have one of the nation’s most explosive offenses, and it may be needed as only five starters return on the other side of the ball. Both starting defensive ends need to be replaced, as well as two linebackers and both safeties. Cornerback Darnell Terrell seems to be the only returning starter who is guaranteed a job, and it is entirely feasible that the Tigers will fall from their position of 39th in the country in total defense. One area of concern for Pinkel will be the special teams unit, as no group finished higher than 83rd in their national ranking.
The fun starts for the Tigers in the fifth week of the season when they host Nebraska before heading to Oklahoma. Missouri then ends the season with three of their last four coming on the road at Colorado, Kansas State and Kansas. There will be a lot of shootouts in the upcoming season for the Tigers, and the defense will have to gel quickly for the Tigers to make it to the bowls.
